Trouble with battleship/sub catapult?
« on: August 06, 2015, 05:23:02 AM »

I've created missions employing the battleship/sub catapult. No trouble setting up a mission, but I can't takeoff without crashing. I've followed the instructions in Monty's notebook from the CUP manual - lower flaps, gun engine, release chocks. But each time, the aircraft hovers a few seconds, plummets to deck and explodes. Happens even on autopilot except that the aircraft does takeoff, only to either crash into the ship's structure (battleship) or break off its floats on the deck (sub).

Also, I've noticed that at the start of the mission, the plane is not actually on the catapult but floating above and slightly to the side.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Any thoughts on this? And should the plane start on the catapult or slightly off? See screenshots.

How about M6A Seiran?

ten010 told me that those catapults need a special glitch on Seaplanes want to be shot and M6A is implemented it, so stock or normal modded Seaplanes cannot.

It doesn't matter what aircraft is used - Kingfisher, Duck, Aichi or even standard aircraft. The plane spawns above and to the side of the catapult, moves forward a bit towards the catapult (but not actually on it or angled correctly) and either drops off to the deck or manages to "fly" a short distance and hit the structure (on the battleship) or tip over the side (on the sub).

Also seems to me that the catapult was designed for seaplanes.

confirm the findings of btasm and also found a "solution" to them...
the culprit seems to be the new engine mod from pt12 of WAW;
with that one in the game, the results look like btasm has posted; also, the I-400 problem as posted in that thread is present;
if one uses the engine mod from part 7 of WAW, all is fine, the Aichi and the Vought launch from both, the I400 and the USS Iowa class BBs...
I did not try pt.8 from WAW and its engine mod, but the stock 2.7 one, the one with the latest Western patch and the one thats in 4.12 give results like btasm has posted;
on pt.7 engine mod, the cat launch of floatplanes works....

When I-400's catapult doesn't work with SAS Engine MOD 2.7 + western's patch on 4.12.2m,
Please test this values in Catapults.ini .

Code: [Select]
[I400_Srf]
dCatapultOffsetX 3.3
dCatapultOffsetY 2.0
catapultPower   35
bSteamCatapult 0

western's patch makes a bit more strict calculation than early Engine MODs.

hello western!

thank you for your support first of all!
unfortunately, changing the offsetY value did not help here;
as said, the problem is also present in the Missouri BBs and it goes away completely when using the engine mod from pt7 of WAW while it is there when using stock 2.7, stock with your patches and the newer engine mods from pt8 onward....

seems to be a classfile trouble somewhere within the engine mod....

Well, at least it's good to know that it's not just my install. I run essentially stock CUP updated to part 12. Perhaps this will be addressed in the future. Thanks.

I have no time to test other ships, but I think....
Missouri BBs are the same reason -- the values dCatapultOffsetX and dCatapultOffsetY are to be tuned more strict.
Not Engine MOD side bug.

then this needs more testing because changing the offset value did not move the aircraft an inch towards the cat on the I400 and it did not help either on the Missouri BBs;
strange thing this error....

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but has anyone figured out a fix for either ship at this point? I'm running into the same issues described here when using either the Missouri and I-400 and it's quite a damper as someone with a fondness for ship-launched seaplanes  :(
