Fantastic looking skins...  FWIW, I think I read somewhere that JG53 used a wide black band on the tail during the "defense".

Jg53 also shared aircraft with wild boar units which used red tail bands, theres a few photos around of ace of spade marked aircraft with red tail bands

An interesting project. I hope you will also make some skins for the less well known Reichsverteidigungs units, for example KG(J)6.

@MuMarine:

The yellow one on the first picture is from the II./JG53 flown by Alfred Hammer in early 1944. The unit shared their planes at ths time with a group from JG 301 night fighters, therefore the planes had the red RV band. I´ve found a picture of it in Jochen Priens great Chronical about JG 53, part 2.

Like Phase3 said, at that time there were even some other units, which shared their planes with the JG 300/301/302 night fighter units, it was called "Aufsitzer" in the german army slang.

@max_thehitman:

It will take some time, cause it´s a huge ammount of work/planes to do. I´m just working on the Bf 109 G5 and G6´s. The later ones and the Butcher Birds are coming next.

I think i will split it into two or three file packs, perhaps the early time and the late or so. We will see.

I learned something new.  Makes sense to share equipment between day and night.

I learned something new.  Makes sense to share equipment between day and night.

In real life it was because of the low production of fighters in the first half of the war - always to few. For the concerning units it it was a plague cause the machines got permanently used around the clock with the effect that the planes were worn out in a very short time.
