Infantry in CUP
« on: August 25, 2015, 07:53:02 AM »

I'm trying to play my DBW 1.71 campaign in CUP but many ground object (such as infantry) seems not available. Is there a mod that I can install to solve that?
Thanks

Great question. I've noticed this too. Maybe somebody will respond with some solution. So far, when I copy old DBW 1916 campaigns over to C.U.P. DOF Module, I have to go in and replace the missing infantry objects with supply columns, or command car columns. NO INFANTRY objects in the FMB objects list???

I started digging through the DoF module myself (just installed it).

Infantry various types of infantry are listed in the technics.ini, but are not activated in the stationary.ini or chief.ini... I'll see if I can find some way to get them working.

Also... I'm going to activate the russian maxim AA guns, as those are WWI vintage (even if the mounts aren't).

EDIT: While the infantry have a technics entry, they don't have a classfile. Attempting to add them threw a classfile missing error. Maxims went in just fine... against low flying planes they are quite dangerous in this period.

Is it possible to adapt and edit an existing class file? It'd be great  to see infantry in CUP. The infantry in DBW is in a SFS file isn't it? Would it be possible to extract it from there?

Best infantry was made by CY6 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?action=profile;u=392) for Vietnam era, those soldiers go prone when fired at and they got dead meshes: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=32048.12
You can probably replace their meshes and turn them into ww2 russian and german infnatry.
Unfortunately I dont have the skills to do it. Boomers object pack includes the meshes of the old soldiers (if you dont want to download 10Gb DBW source ;) ).

There's also the dug in/prone infantry mod which works in 4.10 and 4.12 without problems, I tested it:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,9530.0.html

If you want better static infantry objects you need the DLV Infantry mod + its addon (the addon is not included in Boomers obj pack!): https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,6005.msg426640.html#msg426640

as nice as those Vietnam soldiers of CY6's are, i remember they caused me a huge amount of errors, and i could hardly use any of them in my DBW install without them crashing missions. specifically the soldiers with modern weapons, rockets, etc - never got those to work successfully in any install, due to conflicts with several other arms mods.
it would really be nice if some brave soul/s tackled this infantry thing, and make an infantry mod that works well without crippling different installs.

I gave up on DBW because the new AI is much better in 4.12 and SAS modact 5.3 seems to have better performance than DBW. But I still got my old install so I'm gonna take a look at that infantry beause I dont seem to remember any errors during campaign building. Plus I'm gonna install it on 4.12 and see what happens. :)

Looking forward to this, it would be nice to have an infantry pack for ModAct/CUP.

Thanks VP  ;D

duirng last weeks campaign we noticed as you have, infantry are not available in waw,,,, yet we have static humans as white objects (pointless exersice) and we noticed we have two types of static  armour,
static armour and static armour named (axis static armour ) for example
the ones that are named do not shoot  , not even the turrets move, cannot understand why  the working infantry we had before cup where removed to  be replaced by useless white object humans that  do nothing not even shoot and  tanks that have been listed twice (static armour) those work and are fine , but why  the separated national ones with same names as the ones in static armour but do nothing at all
was there a reason for this?
just seems ludicrous to remove an element that worked   well to be replaced buy what amounts to nothing more then eye candy
kinda confused by this
i know nothing about the engine but  would like to know  why  this has happened
the other question is the cavalry in the dof mod,,,,,,,single horsemen that means ot have a full squadron charge accross no mans land we haved to put 100 single cavalry units why not as the infantry was x2 x3 or x4?
is there a reason for this too,
noting fecesious am just curious as to why the above has happened

ehm IIRC I was able to add the available period infantry stuff into WAW without trouble; at least the game starts and loads missions without anything of a problem...

it is just as easy to add additional stuff into WAW/DOF as it is with other modpacks; you just need to have basic modding skills and know about the dangers of modding a modpack (backup of ini stuff is mandatory in case you screw up)

it is always interesting to read here how many people demand more stuff added and want to have it delivered on a silver plate...guys, be more proactive!
as long as you know how to backup stuff start to experiment around and add stuff to your liking....with a good backup you can still revert to a stock version;
better still, modify your selector and just use a duplicate WAW/DOF folder differently named in the selector to have a modded and a unmodded version running, one to experiment and one to stay with the stock version...easy to do if you ask me...

im not here to hurt peoples feelings guys ,

im just asking why it was removed nothing more,  you say it was a minor issue
for us it is a big issue as it was an integral part of our campaigns and my question is simple
what was the reason a working element of the game removed for two elements that amount to nothing more than eye candy
only wanted a straight answer  lol
was removed cos (stopped the planes from working? stopped missiles from working? did it clash with something?)
if told why it will help me understand what i need to do my end to look to getting it reintegrated on my own system thats all, really no other reason than wanting to know why  so i know how to move forward
