Bare metal Zero
« on: August 26, 2015, 11:30:28 AM »

Is it possible for some one to make a bare metal skin for the A6M2/A6M2-21 based off of this screenshot from Tora Tora Tora?

Only if we agree that the depicted plane is a T-6 Texan ;)
How about this one: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads2&file=details&id=6175

I think I have that skin already. I was looking for one that had bare metal cowling too(possibly with a black anti-glare stripe on the top of the cowling).

Hello Mike,

these skins are old!

These skins are good for unmodded standard IL-2 only, not useable for JapanCat aircrafts - sorry.

Best regards, Gerhard  :)

Well, maybe we can end the story by simply calling that skin of the movie Texan an epic mistake?
By all means, the Zekes of Pearl Harbor (like any other later too) were supposed to wear a black cowling.
And unless someone manages to convince me of the opposite, I say it stayed like that.
Yes, there are a handful b/w images available allegedly depicting zekes with "metal" cowlings, but that's just a combination of overexposed images showing grey/olive camos and/or captured planes flown by british or US troops, who regularly took off the (usually severely damaged) jap painting and just put some anti glare stripe on the cowling.

Nevertheless, I'm sure "somewhere else" people have nothing better to do than stalking our boards for such kind of requests and eagerly wait to grab any straw they can get, so I'm quite confident this will see the light of day "elsewhere", regardless it's historical irrelevance.

Judging by the nature of the scene to follow in the film, my guess is that the Texan was supposed to represent a Zero fresh off the factory floor.

Maybe, maybe not.
Well, given the historical inaccuracy of the painting in the movie, this quick&dirty skin is all I could offer at the moment:

Tora, Tora, Tora! Silver "Pseudo" A6M-2 Skin
