Just another note of thanks. It's especially nice to have the star-strutter in the stable.

At the risk of slipping OT, I'd like to suggest a few future additions: the Fokker D.VIII, SPAD XIII, and some Junkers J-series machines would be interesting. I have seen that at least one of these, the Fokker, is available as a separate add-on. Haven't quite worked up the nerve to try that yet.

 :-[

 ;D

Well. This is ember-assing. This afternoon I discovered that I already have the Fokker D.VIII in my DOF air.ini. There is also a folder containing a nice assortment of skins for this machine in Paint Schemes>Skins as well. LOL.

What I said about the Spad XIII and the Junkers aircraft still holds, though. Thanks to the likes of Eddie Rickenbacker and Frank Luke, the SPAD XIII is much more well known here in the US than the smaller SPAD VII.

Since I'm here, there is a mystery I should mention. My Paint Schemes>Skins folder also contains an oddly named folder: "Rolland." This folder apparently contains skins for the LVG Roland D.II, which seems to have been a single-seat version of the C.II. The Rolland D.II, however, is missing from my DOF air.ini. Is this supposed to be there, or is the "Rolland" folder just a sort of extra folder in the DBW skins set installed with the basic CUP/DOF?

Nice mod!

Can I request a JSME  mod to slow down the roll rates of some WW1 aircraft in DOA?

A pilot Frank Tallman states in his book (Flying the old Planes, Doubleday .1973) who owned and flew actual WW1 (not all replicas) as well as some WW1 replicas states that:

1)   Se5a: (Original WW1 aircraft and Hispano Suiza engine). He writes that the Se5A rolls at 8 seconds to the left and much longer than 8 seconds to roll to the right and it can’t be done smoothly to the right (it is a “rudder” airplane) (He owned an actual WW1 Se5a).  He explained tjat snap rolls and sometimes rudder turns were faster than rolling some of the WW1 aircraft.  Don’t blame me if you say it’s impossible. He published the book and was not contradicted!

“It slow rolls to the left nicely with about eight seconds to complete, but you need 115 mph entry speed to carry you through for the time the engine is out. Unfortunately in rolling to the right, it resisted strongly and you get a roll that is impossible to do smoothly and takes much time.”

The DOF Se5a rolls at about 4 seconds.

2)   Fokker DVII: (Original with ww1 Hispano Suiza engine  r4ecovered during the 1930s)  Full roll is “on the order of nine seconds.” The DOF Fokker DVII is about 4 seconds.

3)   Pfalz DXII (Flew with WW1  Mercades  engine. “Slow roll rate”

4)   Spad VII:  Original Spad VII  With a Hisso engine has unusual and innovative   (for WW1 aircraft) light  push pull ailerons.

5)   Sopwith Triplane (Replica): Light ailerons.

Thanks!

;D I'm afraid flight model edits and completely new aircraft or other content are above my pay grade!  We take what is available, test or convert to 412 code, resolve incompatibilities with shared resources and compress the packages to SFS.

Individual modders and teams are working on new aircraft and objects for WWI using the Il2 engine.  Those guys can be found here:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,135.0.html

I do hope that the content of Dawn of Flight, along with the rest of CUP, illustrates what is possible with the later versions of Il2 and encourages more work in that direction.  In fact we have a wonderful DOF upgrade ready right now and it will be posted shortly.

Thank you for the clarification, Monty. Will bear that in mind, and check to see whether or not a particular type - e.g., the SPAD XIII or Junkers J or D - has already been modeled.  ;)

Thanks EHood - and if you spot any development before I do; please post the link or pm me.  We have many mods under test, some of these before release, and we continually update with what is available.
