Hi

I've installed UP2.01 on IL-2 4.09 to be able to fly some campaigns made for UP2.01.
The campaign I'm flying at the moment is the Westfeldzug campaign by Shoeffel and the map is MAP ash_BoF/ash_load.ini.
My framerate is usually 50-60 in cockpit view, but I get occasionally stuttering which is rather annoying especially in the middle of a fight. Up to ten stuttering is not unusual in one mission.  :(

This is my first experience in 4.09 but in 4.10+DBW and 4.12+Pre-DBW or HSFX I've had less stuttering.
I've not added any graphical mods or sound mods only the FOV Mod, PALMiniMap v2.3 and Mission Pro Combo.
I've tested to change various settings in my conf.ini but the stuttering remains.

Any tips or suggestions please?

Try to reduce the amount of mods maybe and make sure config.ini settings are the same you have in the other installs, except for add on entries in the Mods section.  :-X

ALso depends on what maps and what models you fly and use, even the feared Java wall can be a factor. In 4.09m I notice, the more mods I add to UP or HSFX, the less stable my game runs on my 5.5 year old system. So I try to keep the install slim.

I'm running a default UP2.01 with only a few mods added as I wrote initially, no planes added.
The settings in conf.ini that I started with was the same as in other versions I've flown (except for the mods section).
Then I've tried to change the conf.ini settings to get rid of the stuttering without success so far (following the advice given in "Advanced tweaks for IL2 stutter/FPS problems" given by StG77 HaDeS).  :(

I've tested with a slimmed air.ini file, based on default 4.09 where I removed all Japanese planes and added those needed for the Westfeldzug campaign, but that didn't make any difference.
So what should I remove to get a slim UP2.01?

Are UP2.01 more prone to stutter than later mods/game versions?

Dear vonOben,

stuttering only on a specific map and playing a certain campaign cannot depend on your general setting!

This said you easily understand that cause may be either the map or the campaign itself.

About map (there are some very rich of static objects) you can try replacing in mission file current ash_BoF/ash_load.ini with ash_BoF/ash_Oload.ini; this latter loads the "online" version of same map, presumably "lighter" (I don't know, though, if mission will work).

Regarding campaign, some are scripted to load further flights well after mission beginning, this causes stuttering or even temporary stops of the action.

The appearance of a group of planes during the game causes the freeze for 1 or 2 seconds.
If your mission has more appearance during the game it becomes unpleasant!

Since this is my first campaign and map in 4.09+UP2.01 I have nothing to compare with, but I've also thought about the stuttering could be related to the map.
I tried your suggestion using ash_BoF/ash_Oload.ini map instead for one mission which worked fine but the stuttering was about the same.
Anyway the next mission has an other map so I can see if it makes a difference if I can get the map to work that is:

Yes I know and that is ok, but when I have up to ten stuttering in one mission it's annoying.

Since you are already using texture compression, you could also try:

Shadows=2   ===> =1 instead of 2

I too had troubles playing Shoeffel's campaign, for even more reasons than those you mention. In the end, Shoeffel, who read my negative comments, was so kind to "taylor" his campaign to fit my needs and tastes. It required, though, to overcome many difficulties; map you mention, for instance, requires a special set of actors to work, since those provided in the download are obsolete...

Why you don't try my "Bataille de France"? Followed by "The Few", if you like. All maps required are already included in UP2.01.

Is it possible to merge DGen campaigns so you combine two campaigns and fly them as one?

Since I've already flown 30 missions in the Westfeldzug I would like to finish it if possible.
"Requires a special set of actors to work", is that the 27691_Westfeldzug patch.zip at Mission4Today?

No, it isn't. As recommended, you must fly my campaigns one at a time, since each of them has an unique set of basic files. They are all made to be installed by JSGME and then removed by same means when finished, so to restore original files, avoiding any mixing and inconsistencies. You can play Westfeldzug at same time, though, as well as any other static campaign.

I think so, although I'm unsure. I see Shoeffel added a note dated 2013-02-19 after my review dated Jan 10, 2013 (and an exchange of PM's), related to the problem, but honestly I don't understand what he means when he says "download the patch"... Which patch? Hope this is clear for you.
