DH.9
« on: October 09, 2015, 11:30:11 AM »

Hi everyone,

so nice to find a great forum with so many professional people with passion and deeply love WW1 aircraft. this is an awesome place for fan.
I recently started a new small project for fun, it is DH.9, really want to build it with next-gen game resolution.
It just started, so only has few cab interior so far, will keep updating the progress when I have spare time.
I feel a bit difficult, the version I want to build is the early version, not DH.9A or later version Tiger Moth, so I found it is very hard to find some really good reference.
If anyone has some good ref links or photo reference, that will be a big help to me. Many Thanks in advance :D
Any C&C will be very welcome!

The Whole project started from building up the main wooden structure for the cockpit after the blueprint has been placed into the correct scale

Focused on finishing up the main dials first

With in-game realtime models in mind, I tried my best to bring as much as details up possible.

Even the small lowpolys dials reading bulb has been modeled

Finished up the pilot windscreen

Added the details to the floor, including Rudder bar

Connected the control stick with the floor mechanism

Modeled the side mechanism, operating levers

finished modelling the right side wall's mechanism details

finished modelling the left side wall's mechanism details

One close-up details for the lever and controller

will keep updating :D

Hi everyone, Thank you so much all for so many great responses and compliments.
so happy to have so many aircraft fan here :)

Hey, Hey Alfie,

Yes, I will love to. What is your list and time table for those cockpit?
It will take a while for me as I have busy schedule for daytime work to support my family...to be honest, very little time I can use for this hobbit.
If you don't mind the speed, I will love to help.
my dream is one day I can do this for living, that will be absolutely awesome.

Hi Stefano....very excited by your proposal !
Here are a few examples in no particular order......

Spad

Strutter

Ilya

Caproni

AEG

Farman

Nieuport

I'm very aware of the time and effort that went into their construction......  and I've had countless hours of pleasure flying in them, but it's only when you compare them to the gorgeous cockpits of the Albatros, Dr.1 and E III ,that you realize they need some TLC from a person like you  ;D

Also I'm not sure if it's your thing, but can you get the gauges to function ?
I try to fly by the gauges in IL2 as much as possible..... 8)
As regards timescale.....er crikey......well, I'm 56 now....... so shall we say 10 years   ??? :D
Most important thing though........Wife and Kids come first........after all.....it's only a game...... :D

Cheers

Alfie

Hi Alfie,

wow...thanks for the screenshots, it does look they need a bit of refurbishment.
It is pity they can't show the closest looking compare to the modern games as computer graphic now has so much more potential.
This feels a good ambitious target for me to update them by spare time.
Alfie, 56...I feel so happy to have forum friend like you who has passion and have been flying these lovely classic machines for so many years, 100% will be my honor to update them one by one.
