I use Cassie with hotfix 8 .
There is something strange with some gauges on the SU-26 .
A : numbered lights floating in the cockpit
B : a gauge floating in the cokpit

Not working on Linux.

Hi all! I cannot seem to make this work on Linux. I installed everything fine and it works well on Windows, but when I copy over the folder to my gaming PC, the game does not work.

I installed the UP 3.4 and was crashing at 60% on linux. I then did the installation on my windows lapopt in case something did not install properly, and moved the final folder back to linux. Still doesnt work.

What works (on my linux machine):
Vanilla 4.12.2.m
HSFX 7.03

I suspect a file naming issue, as files like file.sfs and FILE.SFS are 2 different files on linux.

Is anyone here using linux and have they managed to make it work?
Are there config files of all the things that need to load so I can check the filenames are the same?

My final solution is to install windows but I want to try everything else before that,

60% crash should generate a logfile, which would be extremely interesting to see.

EDIT2: I managed to get it working!!! I had decreased the java memory from 512 to 256. Reverting it back solved it. Leaving the post for prosperity.

1. install the updates on a clean version 4.12.2m on windows (mb try on a fat drive, or a virtual drive)
2. configure wine as per link bellow: winecfg: configure msvcp71 as "Native" and msvcr71 as "Native", "dinput" as "Native, Builtin", Windows 7

that should do it. Ensure the java stuff are left untouched. Now lets see if multiplayer works :) Discord here I come!

EDIT: I found a page on getting it to work on Linux and I managed to see the splash screen and get stuck at 20%!! progress!!!

I dont seem to get any logfile (no initlog.lst), and it has been a while since I was getting stuck at 60% (I solved it by installing everything on my windows machine).
On windows the fully updated UP works well and that is the copy I am trying to make it work in linux, too. Want me to install just the 1st UP 3.4 and get back?

At the moment I am getting this error message on linux:

Found a small visual bug? issue? Not entirely sure.


There appears to be rings of lighter colored textures happening when I'm on maps and I can find no apparent cause for this. It's quite annoying visually when I'm flying as it makes buildings glow and is rather distracting.

Yep, the HUD class needs some more love which it will get in Hotfix 9.

Mix of Java 8 and Java 1.3 files.
Don't touch Java 8 unless you know precisely what you're doing.

Cure:
  • Disable Java 8 (or Java 17 to the same effect) in JSGME
  • Delete "bin" and "lib" folders in UP3 game folder
  • Copy the "bin" and "lib" folders from "New Java Runtime File Backup\Java 1.3 Runtime" to your UP3 game folder
  • Reinstall Hotfix 9

I am not really sure if this is a bug (as I didn't notice any visible effect)  however after hotfix 9 if you activate Java 8 or Java 17 you get the selector 5.02 while the standard UP3.4 Patch 2 hotfix 9 has selector version 5.03.

I verified the three different set up and with my rig (well seasoned Intel i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz GT550M 2 Gb Win10-64 Conf.ini max specs), Java 8 is the one that runs better. I noticed a slight reduction in loading time, stutters and lags. I am not sure if this is just placebo or real as differences are not big and by far my UP version on SSD performs much better than the one on HD.
