Problems with the FinnsGulf map are that there ar too much rivers (even the small streams are done as big rivers) and couple of very necessary airfields are not shown in that map.. There are also much more mistakes ...
This is why I left the legacy FinsGulf map alone and went for your Karelia v.1.1 and now am so looking forward to your new efforts.
I did more work on Kolta this weekend (still on your tweaked first Karelia), too bad if I have to transfer what I have to the new Karelia map. I feel like I maybe should start my own thread but it is still best to have all here (like you removing your post on retexturing FinsGulf). In any case I have no plan of releasing mine when yours is in the wings...
Regarding:
I have about 20 textures from the war time main airfields ready done and more is under work... I have now spent 12 textures for those airfields: Mount0-3, Country0-3 and Airfield0-3. There are now 14 custom airfields but I need much more of them. So I must scale airfields as a low resolution textures and then "stretch" (using -2)
I wonder if having base textures to put on the "lowest" layer of the map with texture object (with alpha channel) on top is not the way to go, something that the OksDPlates do very well.
This is something you do with oils filters applied to plastic models, you add successive thin, semi translucent layers to create depth.
June 1942:If you apply all the clear stuff using object like OksDPlates you probably can have a convincing rendering of any airfield ... and a bloated static.actors
November 2015:Still some work to do but it is so much fun!
As disclaimer I will say that the picture above is not from Kanttori new Karelia map but is Zoran's personal research work (happen to be done using an IL-2 map...)
You can see Sestoretskiy Razliv close to Gorskaya airfield in the background, if feel for you Kanttori with the number of lakes and rivers you had to deal with!
Enjoy your hobby, it's a great one !
