Just another carrier.
Furious was rebuilt maybe more times than any other warship.
Developed into an experimental carrier in 1916 with a forward flying off deck and single 18in Gun on the rear.
The first deck landing on a moving ship took place on Furious in 1917.
Converted to have a full flight deck in the 1920's.
Interesting feature is the ramp in the flight deck alongside the bridge structure. I believe it was supposed to assist in bringing aircraft to rest.
The front part of the flight deck is around 1.7m higher than the rear part. In the early days of carrier ops there were no arrestor wires and the aircraft had no brakes!
Stopping relied on a headwind and deck crew to grab the wings!
The small bridge structure was used only for controlling flight ops and AAA fire. The ship was conned from either one of two control areas recessed either side of the front of the flight deck.
Model is based on plans in Warship Profile 24. No hull lines are provided so I cloned the hull from the HMS Eagle model.
