C.U.P.- Module 02 - Dawn of Flight Pt-10

Community Universal Patch
CUP Module 02 Dawn of Flight Pt-10

RESTORE POINT INSTALL

We have to use the Restore Point Install method this time because this upgrade involves more than just adding new content, some things should be cleaned out and a little spring cleaning done...

**************************************

RESTORE POINT INSTALL TYPE
Make sure you are up-to-date, to DOF-Part 09, from previously.

1) JSGME DISABLE everything prefixed #CUP and #DOF

2) In your Main Il2 directory rem out (rename with a -) your current #DOF to -#DOF.

3) UnZIP/UnRAR 'CUP Module 02 Dawn of Flight Pt-10' direct to your Il2 Main Directory and allow overwrite.

4) ENABLE JSGME Options to taste.

5) Delete old -#DOF at your convenience.

**************************************

INSTALL AND JSGME

The safest way, to be certain you have everything clean, is to de-activate all JSGME mod options before you rename (#DOF to -#DOF) and then add the new #DOF.

Next you can re-enable JSGME options starting with just eight general #CUP Options, then the others to taste.  If you have more options prefixed #CUP than the eight shown, I advise you to delete them from JSGMEMODS.

The rest, prefixed #DOF, #JTW, #WAW and #TGA refer to those individual modules and may be enabled in order to 'tune up' your setup.

You have a lot of choices available through JSGME now.  Please don't be afraid of or irritated by it.  These are options, extra cool stuff to try out and 'season to taste'.

This modest looking upgrade, with two re-compiled DOF22.SFS and DOF23.SFS (albeit quite a large ones) and a small classfiles package adds a shedload of static aircraft for 412 FMB Mission Builders.  There is also a huge 3D upgrade for the Nieuport and Morane Saulnier families plus much improved cockpit textures.  These aircraft really look the part inside and out.

We also have an incredible cavalry addon for the ground action.  These guys are going to be retro fitted to my earlier campaigns as well as filling out later ones too.  So much stuff to play with in FMB now!

As a champion of CUP and the 412 FMB I am delighted to be able to say that Dawn of Flight really has reached a level comparable with the previous DBW1916.  In my opinion it has even gone beyond the older version now.  I take no personal credit for this.  The original DBW1916 Team put together 99% of this stuff; tested it and skinned it long before I got my hands anywhere near it!  Please see the CUP Manual for a closer look at this marvelous group.

Converting to 412 is worthwhile because of the enhanced FMB mission builder facilities, and because this greatly updated version of the venerable Il2 simulator is likely to have a longer lifespan than older, less functional, versions.

Those still flying DBW1916 in 410 need only to patch their sim to 412 and throw in the CUP Modules to see all the possibilities of the later code.

Of course there are many reasons and opinions, this is just my take: - But nowadays CUP really can put its money where its mouth is!

Thank you, that's much appreciated.  Its good to see that people understand what CUP is about, great to see that it is helping people to add content to Il2 and, I agree, helping to keep the sim fresh and alive!  8)

I've been following since the early beginnings of Il2 1916/DBW, I remember the very first planes, mostly frankens. At that time, I had multiple installs to keep my loading time safe, one for WWII in Europe, one for naval / WWII in the far East, one for Jets and one for WWI  :P

So I can only admire your good work, and say a big thank you to everybody involved in CUP project ; I realised after installing DoF-Part 10 that FMB had now become almost as simple and powerful than the 'classic' 1946/WAW one, and that's really an achievement ! For me, the only little thing I would miss from DBW1916 is the replacement of countries /air forces name in the QMB/FMB/Campaign menu - but I'm sure it's possible or will be. I tried your DoF campaigns too, and they seems to fit perfectly in this new game environment. It's getting bigger every day ; the Command & Control option are welcome in WWI universe too, in order to build the very first aerial 'special' missions !

By the way, I was wondering if the C&C 'Spotter' option was a possible candidate to join the DoF side ? I mean, no radio, but gunner/Co-pilot/navigator can always spot ground units and shout...  :D

Again, thank you for creating and upgrading the amazing CUP !

Thanks Gatrasz, it is getting to where we want it to be!

I think that the 412 CUP FMB is the most powerful ever seen now.  412 adds many options and functions while CUP adds pretty much all the map content we have ever seen in Il2.  This also means that the object list is the most comprehensive ever as well and it changes by era!

Each CUP module has available several thousand more objects than the basic sim patched to 412/413.  For DoF and TGA we can certainly impliment more C&C options.

VPMedia's Country/AirForce changes have been added to DoF and you should see them.  "Luftstreitkräfte", "Imperial Russian Air Force", Royal Flying Corps", American Expeditionary Force", "K.u.K. Luftfahrtruppen", "Corpo Aeronautico Militare" etc...

Please ensure that you have 'Forgotten Countries activated through JSGME.  This is a JSGME option that is often overlooked but should be considered essential.  I only left it as an option to avoid altering the base sim, in case of changes to DGen and default campaigns.  Maybe, for CUP, we should consider making 'Forgotten Countries' an integral part of the setup...

...BTW: The later campaigns feature the more familiar and powerful models we all know and love.  The very early stuff was a bit fanciful but a good way to engage with some unusual aircraft and features.  The later campaigns are more classic WWI clashes but I will also try to keep them inventive and interesting.  Accessing all the new FMB toys is a real joy.   ;D

I did activate 'Forgotten Countries', but I've never got them. That's a mystery... Maybe some configuration problem preventing them from showing, I am going to look into this... Thank you for your response !

OK - The actual file that has those designations is at ...Your Il2install/#DOF/STD/i18n/country.properties.  I have not done any other languages though, could this be it?  If so we should get on it.  This is my #DoF - country.properties file.  You can open it with notepad and copy/paste over your existing one easily enough:

Yes ! My game was using the country_fr.properties ; now it's corrected and WWI countries are unlocked. I can delete my old DBW1916 install without any regrets ;) Thanks again !
