We'd all love to see the X-wing and Tie fighter in the Sim.
"All" sounds a little too exclusive, I'd rather prefer to see birdshit on the windscreen but maybe that's just me.

Best regards - Mike

Lol Mike!

I just wonder what sort of flight model(s) these would be able to use, since they were actually "designed" ( in real life) by fantasy illustrators, and movie prop-makers, with no real aerodynamic, or aerospace experience or knowledge in the first place. Everything about the Starwars craft is purely fictional, and made-up. I'm sure that the "airframes" would require a lot of "unobtanium" in their construction, for instance. I haven't seen anything like "control surfaces" on the X-Wing, anywhere, and the Tie Fighter doesn't appear to have any aerodynamic support at all. There also isn't anything like an "orbital" or "space" map in the game. If people are just going to make up cool-looking "vehicles", and arbitrarily decide what their "flight characteristics" would be, why limit things to "Star Wars"? How about Barsoomian "airships", or some of Charles Delschau's "Sonora Aero Club" creations?

Since we're talking batshit crazy requests here, i'd actually like to see the Crimson Skies planes ported to Il-2. At least that would be doable and make sense in the context of the game (as in: combat aircraft simulation).

If we completely forget about the practical side of things, then a Borg cube would be my choice. Resistance is futile, prepare to be assimilated. ;)

...Crimson Skies planes ported to Il-2....

This is why I don't like trying to surprise people; I was planning on having that as one of my next projects... >>

Fair points ALL hobbyman!

However:

 - Keep in mind that these craft inhabited a Galaxy far away and long ago. The technology and resources available "there" would be quite different from any such resources or knowledge we may have "now".

The Star Wars universe is rife with different alloys, materials, and power sources. One source "Wookipedia" did state that the X-Wing airframe was composed of "various high grade alloys". In another article the armor is said to be simply titanium.

As for control surfaces and flight characteristics. Any brief survey into the star wars universe will reveal that very few if any airbourne vehicles in that universe "FLY" in the traditional sense at all, thus we can not expect them to behave in the same manner or conform to such conditions as we would consider the norm. Physics of course will apply, and HOW they work has often been thought out VERY carefully by authors and movie creators etc. Most vessels, including Starfighters such as the TIE and X-Wing operate much like a Harrier Jet does today, taking off vertically and then accelerating to speed. This is accomplished without fans or directed exhaust in most cases, but by way of various "Repulsor" engines which negate gravity.... for lack of a better terminology. These allow "flight" and maneuvering in both planetary atmospheres and in space. (This is a vary rudimentary explanation.... Fellow Star Wars NERDs would hang me for such a crude portrayal...)
