Thanks m8 - I think I've found the offending object. Its a bridge..In unlocked fmb theres an icon but no bridge and it doesnt show in the object viewer.

I forgot to mention that because of the game bridges needing 0 meters height to be made, I never bother running the bridge generating command in the map maker anyway. It serves no purpose in these situations and once it even corrupted an actors.static file, leaving an almost finishe map unloadable ... so I've steered clear of that tool ever since.

Which is to point out that there really shouldn't be a bridge icon on the map ... od ...

Thanks guys - I've NEVER failed to get a mod working before! This is a first!

I don't think its anything to do with your map agracier.

I thought 'bridges' because the icons I'm talking about are all aligned on rivers and roads, but after clicking on a few i'm not so sure - sometimes (unlocked fmb) the viewer says 'rowoftrees' then the same icon will say 'crimeahouse' etc somewhere else. Wierd. Spent a few hours in static ini hell yesterday.! Everything seems present and correct. (By the way, the icon is a red disc with a white centre.) Madagascar is the only map giving me this saving problem but after rummaging through others I found that Cats Expanded Midway has really strange mutated tree objects..grey squares with a white spike! Nothing else seems amiss with the game - in fact it runs and looks rather good! Ah well...

I'm starting to suspect corrupted 3d object - which I guess are within an sfs file?

Any other ideas would be most appreciated. Cheers.

Just out of curiosity - what size is your actors? It should be 487k.

The link for the Madagascar map should contain the very latest version since I think I repacked all maps before posting links here ... but maybe better check anywy.

I once had the odd colored shapes in a map or two before as well. I can't remember what caused it specifically, but it was a mod that contained 3 files too many ... I wish i could remember the name of the mod, but it escapes me ... it could have been a cloud mod possibly ...

Yes, its 487k. Dont think your map is the problem.

I disabled all cloud and tree mods and its still the same...

Theres something wierd going on with my static ini. Do you know if the numbering of its entries and the numbering of the objects in the object viewer should be the same? Because I have a discrepancy..!

I've had this problem before. There's a tool that can help:

http://www.allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19922&highlight=static+checker

You can check which objects you're missing in the map's actors.static. Missing objects are usually the reason you can't save a mission.

EDIT: Woops, dead link - anyone know where you can get the static.ini checker?

CY6.

Thanks CY6 but I already did that and no objects are missing. I got the map to save though, but I still don't completely understand what the problem is (no rowoftrees object shows on any map - except cat midway which has grey squares!). I removed double entries etc and renumbered static ini and it all seems fine.

I loaded Madagascar in unlocked fmb and deleted the aforementioned objects/icons. When you click on them they come up in the bottom left bar as 'ActorLabel'. Can anyone explain what they are? The map loads and saves in normal fmb now. So thats one of two solved!

Nice map agracier - I look forward to messing with it. Cheers.

Maybe it has something to do with the labels file? I'll make a mental note to perhaps try loading the map without any labels file and then see what happens ... normally these files are empty with a 0k size ...

I hope the texturing still stands OK ... I've picked up a number of new tricks and procedures in the meanwhile and sometimes i feel like i should redo all the old maps first ... ha ha

I just checked my own labels.txt file for the Madagascar map and it is surprisingly, 1.22k in size ... this is odd since it should normally by 0k!

I have a suspicion this is the offending cause ...

I'd either try the map by deleting the labels.txt file or opening it up with a text editor and then deleting all content and saving it ...

And i have no idea how my labels.txt came to be 1.22 in size, but somewhere during map-making something must have gone wrong ... or maybe i once tried to generate bridges? This is possible since it was one of my first maps and i didn't know what I now know ...

Anyway, try this map with a 0k labels files.

Yep that was it! The original d/l had a labels.txt as 2k. Now I've manually deleted the refs in unlocked fmb it is 0k. So either method will work. Textures and objects are all there.

Phew - all is now clear..Cheers.

I split the links page up into two parts since some members might have a limit of images per post.

Hmmmm ... odd ... it's not my upload, not for the Biscay map. That was indeed a request map and the links and all are taken care of by the Czech Squadron. So I can't say what they did. I did however send an e-mail ... it's possible they don't know bout this ...

However, here is a link for download. Give it a try ...
