Don't worry mate!

I'm around Il2 modding from 2008 and still mess up things up to reinstall from scratch sometimes....

Whew- I thought I had really lost it,BUT I think I figured it our.I just switched in Compatibility section of Properties of the  Selector EXE. to Windows Service Pack XP and it seemed to have fixed startup in any version I was trying to start.This is a big load off my mind as I had a perfect functioning CUP version up & working... ;)

that should always have been your first port of call, James - it's what was meant by checking permissions....
