Map of the Dodecanese Islands - Almost Done
« on: April 16, 2010, 06:15:18 AM »

Here is a preview of a map that is coming along surprisingly well. It is of the Aegean Sea and the Turkish coast, mainly showing the Dodecanese Islands. These islands, mostly former Ottoman Turk possessions, were awarded to Italy after the Great War and remained Italian until after WWII.

A bit off of the main battlefields, this area nevertheless saw much action and should be great for those who like lots of water and islands in the ETO. It can also be used for a hypothetical post WWII Greek-Turkish conflict for instance. I can provide a suitable FMB map for the changed borders in that case.

This map was suggested/requested by Realdarko to use in conjunction with his new Savoia S-21 mod, so to him goes the honor of determining the map area. Shallow water textures are by Bombsaway. This map has quite large areas of shallows and reefs and so his texture fits in perfectly with the general atmosphere.

The map is virtually finished at the moment except for populating of towns and villages. This will be minimal to begin with and so finished within a short period ... a proverbial week or two most likely.

Here's a view of the FMB map ... I'll post some screenshots later.

Agracier, the Dodecanese Island became Italian in 1912, after the Lybian War of 1911, the war which saw the first war use of airplanes.
But, still, outstanding job!

Well, this location was chosen by Realdarko, so the credit's his ... I also did a much earlier try-out a year ago, also as a request for a member here or at AAA, but of a far larger area, going down to Crete and over to mainland Greece. But it was too flawed, or rather inadequate to current standards, to be worth updating and fixing. So it was easier to do a whole new map and much faster too.

Yes! Great idea! They was big fights over there in 1943. The Brits were sent back to the see with a textbook Blitzkrieg attack from the Luftwaffe!

Yes. The Ar-196 was one of the first planes who was modded
to be flyable I think ...

But I can't believe that you can hunt Beaus with it ...
they will hunt and kill you!  :D

And to Agracier:

looking forward to fly over Costas islands  ;D
I will make some QMB-missions for it when it's here...

-G-
Costas' island of origin is Viking's Crete!
