Now, as a bit of a side note.

Yesterday I recieved this, the Revell Ju-87G-1 Stuka in 1/72.

A Youtuber and now an acquaintance on social media inspired me to build this kit and I shall start on her once I've completed the Spitfire.

Or as KT (Paljeet) puts it.... Ju-87 STUKAAA!!!!

Good work on a b--- awful kit I remember from those 'dogfight doubles' you mentioned (I alway thought the Mig-21 v Cessna was a little odd, but I digress  ;D ). I was amazed how far Airfix Spitfires (and others, of course) have come when I built one recently, although I still have an original Defiant and Battle in my stash I might go off on a nostalgia buzz with soon - just to prove a point to my great-nephew.

As ever, looking forward to updates.  :)

Edit: Is that Stuka can-opener the old Matchbox in Revell packaging? I always thought that was a nice kit for its' time.

Well Andy,

Mate the issue I first had was the blending of parts.. not that there is many, but you're bang on it being an awful kit. Still seeing as it's 20 years since getting into the hobby and it being my first kit I built when I was 7 then I feel the nostalgia is there. :))

The Ju-87 is a Revell tooling it's just ancient, however it does have detail but on the wings, fuselage and tail it's all raised... but I'll make it work. ;D

The Airfix MiG-21 was a real gem :-| I built one in 2010 and... well I broke it up 2 years later as it wasn't worth keeping, I rushed it and there was no point in keeping it.. Mind you saying that I do have a 1992 boxing so it might be nice to do the kit properly. :)

Haha, thanks Pal!

Yep, a genuine Ju-87 can opener... the first Ju-87 that I've built since 2007.... 8)

Well gents...

In the final picture and update of the original Airfix Mk.IX Spitfire the kit has failed in it's ways. The paint I applied rippled even with persuasion and to top it all off with a Deja-Vu moment with the Spitfire Mk.I I tried to build the propeller fell off, except it was the kits doing due to the type of plastic which was very brittle.

This kit... and it's history is forever sealed in how terrible it was and my leavings of this build relents me to say that I shall never buy nor build one ever again. To be fair though it's a sad end to what was originally an icon in Airfix's history...

This model shall always be remembered... but for the wrong reasons....

Evening all on SAS,

After wasting 3 days on the pathetic Spitfire kit it's time to start the Revell Ju-87G Stuka. After examining this kit she is full of detail and she even comes with a separate engine piece! So I'm looking forward to building this bird as granted I am a fan of the Ju-87 and having flown the G-2 on IL-2 she's worth my time!

Sit back gents and enjoy the updates of the build of this iconic Luftwaffe aircraft. :)

I recognize that Airfix Spit IX, having built the same kit many years ago (1982). I used SEAC roundels left over from a 1/48 Monogram P-47. Not much of stickler for accuracy in my youth, I'll admit.

To be honest Rob,

I wasn't expecting much ''umph'' from that kit anyway, it was 62 years old and sadly time caught up with it VERY rapidly. Airfix though unlike the Spitfire Mk.I/Mk.V which was re-tooled in the 1970's had much better duration before the original Mk.I was retired in 2009, but strangely the Mk.V still soldiers on as the Starter Set and can be found on shelves today.  o_O

I still don't understand why Airfix didn't re-tool the Mk.IX in that period... instead the tool got weaker, more malformed and finally killed off in 2005 before the new Mk.IX was issued in 2009/2010 which was so desperately needed and well.. we got it!  ::)

It's a wonder as to why the old tool carried on for such a long time? Everyone knew it was bad and often many modellers wrote to Airfix even as far back as the 1990's to withdraw it! Granted I was too young so I couldn't voice such an opinion back in that period.  :-|

Ah well, the kit's gone in the bin and it makes me kind of sad... because she was my first model kit and something told me in the end it wasn't worth it and focus on builds like the Ju-87, Ju-88 and modern Hurricane toolings... and well you saw the result... prop fell off, the paint wouldn't apply and well she used up a lot of my liquid poly so it wasn't worth the 3 days I wasted on it.  :(

Continuing on with the Ju-87,

Interior, 37mm cannons as well as Jumo engine built. With the interior parts it comes in two part colours, the cockpit/gunner arrangement was done with a very rare paint known as Revell 79 RLM Grauviolet or in Humbrol terms Matt 92 Iron Grey which has long ceased out of production since the 1990's. So a rare paint gets another chance to shine on another kit. The last time I used it was 6 years ago on the original Airfix Bf-109G-6. 8)

Day 2 of the Stuka build,

Cannons, engine and cockpit are completed. Touch ups and washes will be added once assembly of the fuselage is made.. :)

Well chaps,

Cockpit, engine and instrument decal added... I have to admit this was the most detailed arrangement I've seen in 1/72. Usually it would be the basics for a 1/48 kit! Mind you it was a bit of a fiddle and was a bit difficult... however I succeded. ^-^
