Morning all on SAS,

Today I start a real classic kit which at the time in 1962 excelled against most Airfix types such as the dreadful Spitfire Mk.IX and the BT-K Spitfire from 1954 and 1959. She was in production for 33 years and finally withdrawn in 1995 and replaced in 2016 by the new tooled Mk.IIa.

Evening all on SAS,

After a long day at work I got back and painted the pilot, he was covered in flash but with careful cutting with my knife I managed to clean it all away. Strangely with this figure originally I believed there was a problem with the molding, however it turned out the spade grip joystick was actually part of his body! ::)

So he's some sort of a mutant.. :-X ..but when painted you can see the stick and spade grip which was a real tiny job to paint, but hey I got there! ;D

Morning all on SAS,

Today the main body, wings and tail are now one piece... automatically you can see the age of this kit due to it's strange shape but I think it looks cute. ^-^

I like it, has a certain charm that's perhaps lost with these new-fangled CAD designed offerings.  :)

I'm glad someone agrees with me Andy,

Yes she's ancient but a fun little kit to make, as mentioned when I started the build she was the first all detailed model of a Mk.II Spitfire, outclassing the original BT-K Spitfire from 1954 and that terrible Mk.IX from 1959... :)

Evening all on SAS,

Today I made a good amount of progress on the Spitfire Mk.IIa. The big test was considering this particular kit was from 1984 I was worried about the decals, however I couldn't have been more wrong in that judgement! The decals were very good and complied to the model well and didn't break up or wrinkle... so a real treat for me in trying this classic kit out. 8)

Also to note the decal sheet came with a lot of stencils and they aren't as basic as other kits from the period. :)

You've done a better job than the box top with the decals.  ;D ]thumright[
