Afternoon all on SAS,

Well as Matchbox kits goes this one was another gem to build. Like the Spitfire Mk.IX this one took me overall 2 days from parts to the finished item, thanks also to the recessed panel lines the wash went in them a treat! A nice kit all around and finally a Hurricane Mk.IIc sits on my shelf. 8)

Enjoy the video of the final Hurricane ever built... she's a real gem here in the UK. :)

Morning all on SAS,

With the completion of the Matchbox Hurricane I'm moving back to Spitfires... yes it's another one! :))

However this one is quite unique and was only equaled by the Heller kit from the 1990's except this one came first. This kit is a conversion build with the ability to make either a Mk.IX or a Mk.XVI bubble top, by this point the model tool isn't as crisp as the previous Mk.IX I built in October. So the panel lines and some of the detail has been lost but that was possibly due to the editing of the tool. :-|

The Heller Spitfire XVI lasted until 2004 with the special Battle of Britain Memorial Flight gift set which sadly was it's final release. I have the Heller/Airfix BBMF release in the post and it shall arrive in a few days time to build and compare what was better and what one faltered.  :-X

Wish me luck with this build... this being my first conversion kit I'm a little nervous but quietly confident. :)

Well... this was interesting..

The grooves for cutting were thicker than I originally thought, even with the sharpest knife I had a little issue with removing the upper section of the fuselage however with patience and precise work I was able to make it fit nicely, a little poly will sort this issue once the fuselage is assembled. :)

Afternoon all,

This'll be my last post for a while as I'm taking a break of model building as I feel I've done enough for the time being. :)

The update on the Spitfire XVI is not a good one, this actually was the reason it put me off as yes I'd had plenty of success but fails were starting to take effect... The paint coat I applied was a pot of Revell 79 which was on it's way out, the paint was thick, and even with thinners it didn't work.. the detail of the recessed panel lines filled in and despite using sandpaper and white spirit it just removed the panel lines and the paint went rock hard in minutes so I classed this project over.  :(

Ricky and the chap who runs the YouTube channel Model Minutes suggested I make a diorama but sadly it was too late it went into the skip... by this point gents another Matchbox Spitfire XVI and the Heller version arrived. So when I come back to it in the future I'll continue the build of the new one which I had made a start on. :)

The interior was painted, the fuselage alteration was much cleaner than I did last time and the gap of the fuselage was a lot closer to the end of the tail where on the first one it was badly done and yet again over exuberance got the better of me so for now gents I've packed all my model stuff away but I will be back! ;D

G'day BlackAce7727

I guess this is what was suggested to you.
Maybe next time you have a reject model something like this could be created or even a burnt out one.
I think these sort of dioramas look awesome.

Hi genX,

It's an idea I may consider if I have another fail... still it's something I may do when I get back into model making. ;D

Thanks mate.
