Caudron C.714 problem
« on: January 27, 2016, 10:20:04 AM »

Here's a problem I've had since I first put together my CUP installation, several months ago. The skins in my C.714 skins folder appear in, for example, the QMB menu:

But no matter which skin I select -

only the default skin appears:

BTW, having the "Markings On" switch in either position makes no difference. The markings shown in the screenies are apparently part of the default skin.

I believe that someone else at SAS has mentioned the same problem, but I cannot now find the thread where I saw this. In any event, the C.714 has proven a pleasant surprise, especially when flown against the first, Jumo-powered Bf 109s, and I'd like to be able to produce a speculative mission set or campaign featuring the Cyclone. Any help with the above-described problem would be greatly appreciated.

hmm...okay, i'm not using CUP yet, and i'm not familiar with those specific skins, but the most likely thing is that the skins are in HD (24-bit) format, and you possibly don't have the HD mod enabled?
easy enough to check in your Caudron skins folder and see what size they are. regular 8-bit bmp's will be 1MB in size, 24-bit will be bigger - around 12MB or so...

I think it is a Hi-Rez/Lo-Rez problem.

Personnally, I use only Lo-Rez skins, and I have a home made Lo-Rez set for some planes I use in every install of the game (even in CUP).

I do not Hi-Rez definition, for 2 reasons :

-I consider this just as eye-candy,
-it takes too much space on my HD (when you have MANY, I really mean MANY skins, you try to save space), as a Hi-Rez skin is 12 Mo, when a normal Lo-Rez is only 1 Mo...

Thank you so much for the quick responses.  :) Unfortunately, the C.714 skins I have are all low-res, 1 MB files.  :(

I'll check back later to see if anyone can offer an alternative solution.

With best wishes,

please give us an example of one of those skins that doesn't appear - of the name of the skin, as it appears in the folder.
it might be something to do with the name - iirc, there are some characters/symbols which the game won't accept in a skin name....

EHood, you can put this http://download1650.mediafire.com/1k5h3254489g/o10orre8rcu1r3h/Caudron714.7z in your #WAW folder (it's GilB57 default skin), it will solve your problem until Monty fix it himself.

Thank you, Korrigan, I'll try that.

Since I have made the screenshot, here are the file names in the folder:

I did alter the Ambrosini file names, to eliminate gaps in the original names, but the other file names seem to be alright. At least, I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary.

Once again,

All these skins work fine in my CUP with the little fix I provided you in my previous post.  ;)
