Thanks for the quick reply :)  Yes the cockpit pack V4 was also added as I put in my file structure above.

I will try the log you mention and report back.  Thanks.

(PS If I take out the MODS folder the game starts so the problem does lie in the MODS folder)

OK this time I watched carefully and it was a 60% crash this time so the solution is probably quite easy but I can't trace it.

I have the log file which is very long and I can't see any obvious errors.  Do you want me to post it?  Thanks.

OK that's a brilliant help. I have now traced the problem to the air.ini file in the MODS folder.  When I do this:
//Bf-109B-1         air.BF_109B1 2                                g01   SUMMER
//Bf-109B-2         air.BF_109B2 2                                g01   SUMMER
//Bf-109C-1         air.BF_109C1 2                                g01   SUMMER
//Bf-109D-1         air.BF_109D1 2                                g01   SUMMER
//Bf-109D-1Late     air.BF_109D1L 2                               g01   SUMMER

the game loads.   When I take the // out to enable them the game fails at 60%.  Except I can't see what's wrong with the entries as I cut & pasted them from the readme.

Is it ok that an unmodded air.ini still exists in the file folder?  Will this just be ignored as well?

As for the log file I don't see what you quoted above.  It just ends with:
(Main3D.java:689)
[21:56:51]      at com.maddox.il2.game.Main3D.beginApp(Main3D.java:352)
[21:56:51]      at com.maddox.il2.game.MainWin3D.beginApp(MainWin3D.java:211)
[21:56:51]      at com.maddox.il2.game.Main.exec(Main.java:419)
[21:56:51]      at com.maddox.il2.game.GameWin3D.main(GameWin3D.java:235)
[27.11.2010 21:56:51] -------------- END log session -------------

Thanks again :)

I thought there was a problem with the plane file structure in the MODS folder but it all looks as it should in the link you gave.

As this is the only mod in the folder with the corresponding buttons 7.5 and cockpit as I have listed above I am stumped as to why the air.ini is failing unless other air.ini's have to be deleted.

WHat about the original 109B-2 that came with UP2.1 ?   Does that have to be deleted somehow?

Omg, how long has it been since someone posted something on this specific board? That was surprising.

Well after fighting the problem for a few hours I decided to ask for help and then it looks like I got criticised for it.  Oh well.  Thanks anyway.

guys, please keep the totally irrelevant and useless posts to yourselves, such as Gneisenau's previous post...we really don't need to clog up threads with such comments, thanks.
@ NineLives, you can save the sarcasm, as well....a 60% ctd is always, and i mean always, when a guy either doesn't have the right buttons, or hasn't followed instructions properly. in your case, it seems to be the latter.
and the admins have to deal with endless 60% ctd posts, where guys keep on insisting that they have done everything correctly, and their situation is unique. and always, always, always, it turns out that they either didn't have the right buttons, or they didn't follow the instructiions properly.
and i mean always. just look at every 60% post made, it always ends up with the guy eventually realising he didn't follow all the instructions properly, or left something out.
really, go and have a look. ;)
it's little wonder that the admins and team members who give up so much of their time to help these people, start getting a bit antsy about the eternal insistence by people that they've done nothing wrong, and having to repeat ourselves over and over, on an almost daily basis.
once you've figure dout what you did wrong, let us know, so that we can at least have a bit of a laugh, thanks.  :D
then, maybe we can spend some time actually flying the sim, rather than going through the same process with tomorrow's unique 60% experience...

edit: crazyflak posted same time, nevertheless, i'm glad i got that off my chest.  ;D

we put up the 60% troubleshooter in the tech help section for this sort of thing. As Malone said, 60% is a very specific problem, and the troubleshooter cover all the areas of it.

We get (less nowadays, but a lot in the past) a lot of "I have 60% CDT" posts, where guys did not follow the whole troubleshooter, or did not follow it properly, and then post in a thread about it. But there is never a unique cause for a 60% CDT. It is specifically just a few things.

At 60%, the game checks the first air.ini it finds, the air ini points to a classfile, which the game looks for, and the classfile asks for a flightmodel in buttons, which the game looks for. If that chain is broken in any place, you get 60%.

To give you an understanding of the admin's feeling about this, in June this year, we removed more than 1500 superfluous "I have 60% CDT but I did everything right and now I dint know what to do" posts from the forum. All their solutions were found in the troubleshooter. If anything else was wrong with their game, it would not crash at 60%.

On a side note, we also removed almost 2000 "link is broken"-"No it isn't" posts :D

OK I think there has just been a big misunderstanding.  Crazyflack when I said "that's a big help" I really meant that's a big help I wasn't being sarcastic!   Anyway, move on.  I am not going to waste any more of your time here guys.  I fully appreciate that a 60% CTD is user error.  The reason I needed help is because after reading pages and pages of this site and double checking everything I am still at the 60%.  As soon as I // the new planed in MODS air.ini the game starts.  When I delete the MODS folder the game starts and yet I am told that the MODS folder over-rides everything in the FILES folder so nothing else needs to be changed.  Even when I do delete the FILES air.ini or put the new planes in I still get the problem.  Everything else in the files tree is as it should be.   I am stumped completely and am going to forget it which is a shame when I can see other guys simply installed and played.....I just don't get it anyway thanks to everyone who did try and help me.    :) ....... and yes if I ever do find out what happened I will tell you so you can all tell me off !

Hello NineLives

I know what you can feel, I've been through this before.....
Please just check twice that every mod you added in your MOD folder is COMPLETE. I already said on different posts that it can happen sometimes
that when you transfer the content of a zip file by doing a drag and drop that some hash files are NOT transferred .
Seeing your folder now in your MOD folder you may think it's O.K. Well , not , just compare the one in your MOD and the one in the ZIP and you'll see what I mean.
If that happen for sure , you may have the right air.ini , ru properties and ru weapon properties but you'll have a 60% crash,because the hash files are just missing in your MOD folder.So, just check every mod you add since the last time your game started O.K. by comparing them with the zip or rar archive.
Sorry for my bad english, but I hope it still helps.

Madcop ;D

also, do that log file thing, and upload the whole log after you experienced a 60%.
Y^ou can also upload screenshots of yout mods folder contents, as well as screenshots of the contents of your SDT folder, and screeshots of the folder in which you have buttons, andthe folder in which you have air.ini, and the folder in which the 109 pack is, so we canm see if there is anything funny. Upload them to photobucket or somthing and link us in.
