That also sounds like a great project. Looking forward to it! There is a strange lack of new Eastern Front maps.

There are at least 2 other large Eastern Front maps that simply ran out of steam and were abandoned. Autopilot made a big Voronezh-Kharkov-Kursk-Poltava map. And a group of Russian guys made an Odessa-Dnepropetrovsk-Perekop map that I have in beta.

The maps are too big and people don't have the time to finish them off.

Yes, those big land maps ARE a big undertaking. Mapmaking on that level must surely be a collective venture in order for it not to become simply overwhelming. (Hope you make it all right, Uzin!) But there are good signs in this thread of this being the case, not least with people lending a hand with the pretty tedious, but very important populating.

Regarding that Odessa-Dnepropetrovsk-Perekop beta (I've got it as well): someone with good knowledge in russian should translate it, because it looks really nice, and could without a doubt be put to good use. The guys at Aviaskins are doing a hell of a job.

My Army Group Centre map is coming along fine. I have finished all the terrain and the major road and rail net and have populated most of the major cities, along with all airfields.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in helping me populate the small towns and farms?

I also have an upcoming project - "The Cherkassy Pocket". This will cover the Dnepr from south of Kiev to Dnepropetrovsk and from Poltava to Uman'. So it will be suitable for the Dnepr battles in fall '43, the Kanev parachute drops, the Cherkassy Pocket and much of the other fighting in both 41 and 43.

So far, I have just started on drawing the rivers into the map_C. I have to totally redraw the Dnepr and have obtained most of the period maps for this from John's World War Two maps website. (Thanks!) So maybe I will have something to show in a couple of months.

CAUCASUS map WIP is progressing rapidly.  Its discussion and many screenshots (if you haven't seen it) is on the All Aircraft Simulations website in the Maps WIP Forum.

I've started to tinker with an idea of building a Iraq 1941 campaign. There is just one snag: I can't save. And we all know what that means: that I'm missing some objects.

But I can't find any mention of extra objects needed on the read-me. Help! What am I doing wrong here?  :-\

There was an issue with several objects. Here is a post where a fix is discussed. About halfway down the page, in one of my posts:

This is probably the most importnt prt for you:

There is also an issue of multi-storied Egypt houses i tried out. This is my fault. I tried adding some special features for Egypt houses, but apparently not all of the objects were removed. I will edit out these objects in the actors files, but that will take a while. Meanwhile this can be fixed though by adding the following lines to your static.ini file. A few posts higher this is described, but here it is again.

BUT BACKUP STATIC.INI FIRST!!

Hmm, that IS a snag.  :-X

I tend to avoid using maps that require extra objects to be added, as it seems that the average user finds this too tricky. (I know I do!) So perhaps I'll wait until your Iraq map gets incorporated in the next Mod Pack (UP/HSFX). Which it of course must!

PS. Today I've posted a third campaign for your excellent Andalucia map!

They are not really new objects, they are just existing objects elevated to a certain height. There are no files that need to be added to the game, just an editing of the static.ini file with the above lines.

I tried editing the static.ini with a text editor and then using the find/replace function to edit out the high houses. But it didn't work apparently. Adding the extra lines to the static.ini did work for other members ...

But no matter ... there are plenty of maps around ... with a Madrid (Brunete-Jarama) map coming up soon. Templates by Lejo who gave us the great South European/Desert Houses repaints packs.

Just the editing of the static.ini tends to scare people off. But maybe I'm too cautious.

Anyway: just building campaigns for all your OTHER new maps will keep me more than busy!  ;)

But I'm looking forward to using the Iraq map. I've been reading Christopher Shores "Dust Clouds in the Middle East", which I think is the best description of the air campaign in Iraq in 1941 - I didn't know that the Italians also sent a contingent to support the pro-Axis coup.
