In the last months of World War 2, after work on the P. 1111 was halted, designers at Messerschmitt AG began studies on a new aircraft that built on the disadvantages of the P. 1111. What they came up with was the P. 1112, which may have become the standard jet fighter of the Luftwaffe, had the Third Reich managed to hold its ground and push back the allies.

Brief HistoryWhen Willi Messerschmitt halted all design work on the P. 1111, Messerschmitt's entry into the Jägernotprogramm (alongside the P. 1110), work was started on a new aircraft. The project was given the designation P. 1112 as it was the successor to the P. 1111. The team involved with the P. 1112 was headed by Waldemar Voigt, who estimated that a flying prototype could be constructed by the summer of 1946. This would never happen, of course, as the Oberammergau facility (where Messerschmitt design work was taking place) was overrun by the US Army on April 29, 1945. Even though a prototype was never constructed, a mock up cockpit was in progress at the time the Americans seized the facility.
