yes - as i suspected, it's part of the PAL VisualMod - at least, that's the only place that classfile occurs in my install.
and, indeed, the walking pilot is a part of this mod...
in this case, i must again refer back to my earlier posts in this thread, especially reply #6.
besides this being an essential mod for me, i would have thought this to be a hugely more common problem, as many people use that mod, compared to the few times this 'tanglechute' error has been reported.
now, i know this problem hasn't always been present in earlier versions, so i guess to revert back to a pre-walking pilot VisualMod version is a solution, although hopefully, since Pablo is more around again lately, he might have time to look at this.
also, i'm using the newer update version that includes ordnance cam, a la 413 - perhaps that might have an impact?... https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,50130.msg547482.html#msg547482

edit: sorry, western, you beat me to it! :D

The Paratrooper.class in the \JSGMEMODS\#CUP_00-PALsVisualMOD9-v4122 folder does have the chuteTangled method. So there are definitely multiple versions in the ether.

Jim, what is actually causing the ctd in game?
that info is also needed, besides the log, so that we can corellate the info.
my guess is it's the same as most others - when crew are bailing out of a plane with more than 2 crew? can you confirm?

my guess is that Pablo (benitomuso) can fix this issue, but that he's simply unaware of it, due to him being away from the forums for awhile.
he's back now, so probably just needs to be told about this.

I was suspecting a newer version of the Engine Mod as well when I first read this, since I lately seem to have an issue with a new WIP version of the latter...but, like Western and other gents suggest..the error seems to lie within the Visual Mod.

Curious on how this turns out. What I find is with the Visual mod, several jets cause game freezes when switching into their respective pits.

Cheers

I tried in SAS modact 5.3, F4u vs G4M Betty quick mission and with or without visual mod theres no crash or error message. I'm using 'PAL-VisualMOD9-v4122' downloaded from this site.

well, where does that leave us? is it a combination of Visual Mod and some other mod, then?
essentially, it has been proven to me that this is caused by the VisualMod, as it is the ONLY mod i'm running that uses this method.
so, my guess is it's a specific version of the 4122 VisualMod, something akin to one version the Engine Mod which allows for the Iowa catapult to be used, and another version which breaks it.
did you actually check to see if a Betty got shot down in that mission, and also checked that you don't have 'no parachutes' option selected for them in FMB?
not really sure what to suggest. so far everything points to VisualMod, so there must be something different about your install that causes it not to happen.
as i mentioned earlier, i have ALWAYS used VisualMod, from the very first version to the most recent, and only encountered this problem recently for the first time - which leads me to think it's a specific version of the 4122 VisualMOd causing this.
i'm surprised that Pablo hasn't replied on this matter yet, I have mentioned it, and so far only silence. maybe he is just busy with the new Engine Mod atm...

Yes I shot down four Betties and all used their parachutes by default.
I even decompiled the above mentioned classfile of visualmod (6D8F6BA002E7F440) but I dont see 'TangleChute', only 'chuteTangled. I'm no java coder but the two things arent the same. I'd try to look for a duplicate classfile or update my visualmod.

i went on the advice of Mike from reply # 10 in this thread, looking for classfile "6D8F6BA002E7F440"
the ONLY instance i have of this file is in the VisualMod - no duplicates whatsoever....
so i'm at a complete loss as to why several people are suffering this problem, and others not....

I even decompiled the above mentioned classfile of visualmod (6D8F6BA002E7F440) but I dont see 'TangleChute', only 'chuteTangled.
That's okay.
The "com.maddox.il2.objects.air.Chute" class calls the method "chuteTangled":
Code: [Select]
            if(Actor.isValid(paratrooper))
                paratrooper.chuteTangled(actor, flag);
The method has to exist inside the "Paratrooper" class.
Those who have issues can open the file "6D8F6BA002E7F440" which they have inside a text editor (notepad is sufficient) and check whether they can find the text "chuteTangled" inside (Ctrl+F, then search for the text).
If your instance of the "6D8F6BA002E7F440", which represents the "Paratrooper" class, does not contain the text "chuteTangled", then it has to crash the game, it's as easy as that.
You will have to load another version of the regarding mod containing that file then.

Best regards - Mike
