Drone Strike
« on: April 18, 2016, 02:20:08 AM »

A police investigation is under way after a passenger plane approaching Heathrow Airport was hit by what is believed to have been a drone.

The British Airways flight from Geneva, with 132 passengers and five crew on board, was hit as it approached the London airport at 12:50 BST on Sunday, the first such incident in the UK.

137 lives put at risk unnecessarily by the thoughtless actions of one individual.    >:(

The US authorities have already identified the possible dangers and taken steps to address them ...... I just hope that the UK Government wakes up and looks at the whole "Drone vs Safety&Privacy" issue..... before some ideologically retarded moron realises what an opportunity to create carnage and mayhem this "new technology" offers them.

You can put any law against this, there always be stupid people thinking they are more intelligent to be caught !

A simple solution would be to put jamming devices around airports, to put those drones down automatically, no ? if they are on the good frequencies, there will be no problem...

We all knew stupidity would rule over these drones.....It even says on the box ''Don't play round hazardous areas''. And I am sure Airfields are on that list!... >:(

I've read some airports are using birds of prey to chase away other birds .. Maybe they can be used against drones, too ..

It looks like a fun  hobby, but putting hundreds of lives in danger , even if its just one person, then
these people better wise up and stop doing it.

The law should be given hard with "Life in jail" if you are responsible for an airplane crash.
All hobbies are fun - but don't kill people because its "fun".

Problem is that drones are so easy to fly that any idiot can do it. Even modern RC Helicopters are easy, but not that easy. All you have to do with a standard electric chopper is drop the stick and it will level out

And perhaps a point has been missed here, if a drone could bring down an aircraft and I say if, any terrorist could have a new weapon !

So this is far more serious than some dolt being stupid .

Drones have been used for dropping incendiary bombs on ground targets in Ukraine, at least twice. At least once such mission resulted in heavy damages to buildings and equipment. There were developments of drones with anti-tank missile already in 2014. All that was done not by aeronautic companies or state organisations but by small teams with little funds and with not-so-modern technologies.
Hense, my assumption is: there are drones that can bring down airplanes and terrorists have them already. Unfortunately.

The drones that are available for large corporations are amazing beasts.

They are often designed to carry heavy loads like professional cameras for film work. The shots that used to require a helicopter can now be shot from drones with a massive cost reduction.

Those would be big enough to take down an airliner just on their own. Engines are designed for bird strikes, but birds aren't constructed from carbon fiber and steel.

Big problem, no easy solution.
