HELP: CUP HE-111 SKIN BUG
« on: April 18, 2016, 01:39:30 PM »

HELLO: I just recently installed CUP on my system and have started exploring and testing it out. Very impressed overall, so far. I have been using QMB to test things and have come across a strange issue with some He-11 variants and skins that I have been using for sometime on both the stock game and HSFX7 without any such bug.

This doesn't happen on all the He-111 variants, but surprisingly it has happened on the H-2, H-3 & H-6 when using an external view of the aircraft, (f2)...the issue is that it appears that the left and right edges of the pilot's overhead instrument panel are protruding through the top of the canopy. You can see what I mean in the below image. This is an He-111 H-6 using Jaypack44 (Generic skin 7).

What's interesting is that the same bug does not show up on the same aircraft using another Jaypack44 skin, (generic skin 6)

Also, the bug doesn't show up using the default skin.

I can't believe this is a problem with the skin itself, but I'd like to know why it happens and if there's a fix? Could this be an issue related to the YT2 versions of the He-111? Also, I should mention that there are a couple of other variants, like the H-16 & P2 that don't appear to have the problem.

Thanks for any information and help.

Looks like an issue with that particular skin, but you say using Jaypack44 (Generic skin 7) in HSFX7 you have no problem?

Looks like the alpha channel may be missing?

Have you opened the skin in an image editor and re-saved it?
If the skin is working in HSFX copy the skin from there into your CUP installation.

Thanks for the reply Sir.

I haven't tried opening the skin file with an image editor and resave it, and the skin was copied from my HSFX skin files. I have never opened a skin in an image editor, so I'm not sure what that would do, exactly.

maybe I'll try re-downloading the skin and see if it works better...BTW, this isn't the only skin or skinner that has this He-111 bug with certain He-111 variants...and again there are other skins (even from the same skin pack that don't exhibit the bug?) that's why it seems very strange, but there it is?

Before I replied I downloaded the skin and put it into my CUP installation. It looks ok to me.
Is the He 111 the only object you have a problem with?

Yes, thanks. so far that's the only airplane that I've noticed an issue with....and its not all the variants. The skin works fine with for example the H-16 (which has a different canopy), but the bug shows up on the H-2, H-5, and all the H-6's...and it's not all of the skins that seem to cause the problem. Like I say, Jaypack44 Generic-6 is no problem, but Jaypack44 Generic 7 does show the bug..

I will try to download the skins and see later today and see if the bug goes away.

Thanks for the reply and help.

First my excuse, now I have no time to test installing C.U.P. and He 111 in it with skins you are referring.
Here is only my GENERIC thought.

My thought is....
That bug is from each Skins , maybe not from 3D data of He 111 sub-types.
So, not related to C.U.P.

In updating 3D models or expanding to new sub-types not only modding but also official upgrades, sometimes a new 3D parts want to use a new area of the skin texture file of 1024x1024 size.
When some skins are drawn based on old models' void texture it contained blank areas painted in black, and the blank areas are newly used to be other colors for new parts, old skin files will make a buggy display.
The bug looking are is where assigned on the texture file 1024x1024 pixels are able to find for every players, not only developers/modders.
Once you will find the area, you will be able to compare color and pixels between bug skin files and bug-free-skin files, paste safe pixels to bug skins and fix it.

A skin can not turn parts of the alpha channel off (it comes from skin1o.tgb, the default skins), there must be something else there. Since you have a GTX970 I'd switch to OpenGL and check again.

Thanks. My game is already set for Open GL with resolution: 3440 x 1440...Looks awesome, just these annoying He-111 skin bugs with certain models of he-111's and certain skins.

The water on the screenshots looks 100% DirectX.

Btw I got Jaypack44's He-111 skins but I dont see this error.
