For those who do not know...

The addition of any form of nose art or any markings involves the creation of additional single sided portions of the current surface layer  called "overlays" that are linked via an individual *.mat file to the particular "overlay" required. They are "lifted off" the original surface by a small amount to allow them to be displayed without interacting with the surface skin.

These are normally specific to certain areas (obviously) and therefore cannot be moved at random to suit a particular preference. Therefore, you would need to first create the new 3d for the relevant meshes before you change the coding to allow the game to display it.

That said, it may be possible to have these "overlays" as separate meshes (rather than as part of the current mesh it needs to go on) and coupled to the parent mesh as part of the "hier mesh system" , but I am not sure if this could be made to work ......  scope for experimentation possibly...  ;)

Dear G,

Tried putting numbers on MiG-21's that way, it worked.
However after damaging it, it made that part under of plane under the numbers see-through... maybe I should have linked it to the dmg models as well.

@Pursuivant, I'm going to reply by paragraph to your paragraphs:

- Wow really? I never knew what a noseart was!! thanks! :o
- It IS.
- Oh no, it'll just take, perhaps, with 1000 aircrafts, like, I dunno. Months? It's probably almost as tedious as the 3d fixes Jerimiro makes.
- Can you see now why the 'NOSE ART' section was tied to the USAAF/etc sides only in the sim now..?
- 'Your whole idea and explanation here'
Insh'allah. I literally have no other way to explain how to reply to that.

GJE has pretty much well explained what I meant to but couldn't and that's what I was trying to say. As for the personal markings and all that jazz, does it really matter? I mean, have nose arts, but going into such detail? ??? I can barely see anyone's face, let alone their skin when I shoot them down nor can they when we're in an actual battle. Gerhard has a sexy Bf-109 skin with this babe on it but I never saw it until he landed or posted screenshots himself! Barely anyone looks at it unless you're spectating or flying in formation. Which even then you're pretty much sticking to the mission and looking around for targets and such - it's not a fashion show..

Just for you (yes you are special in my heart <3 ) I did both a Skin noseart (on the skin) and a noseart noseart (file): *Click to enlarge*

Noseart file (omg so hd wowowo 10/10 saxxy winner)

Skin with a noseart on it

Let's focus on getting the 'noseart' on other countries first, THEN move onto that massive idea of yours. Despite it  thing going to be a pain in the ass as explained, I'm up to do it on my Sbach model right now. ;) It's a start and even Koty's done it. Eventually some day we may have it. 8)
