Dear SAS,
I was just reading the KT flying tank thread and posted that the most obvious choice for a tow plane would be the ANT-20bis.
So here is a request. It may not be the best, or the greatest but here you go:
I realize that make a flyable plane for Il-2 from scratch is a time consuming and horrifying process. I doubt that making a franken is any easier but at least parts exist. Its called a franken for a reason I'm guessing.
The airplanes that most resemble the ANT-20bis would be the Pe-8, TB-3.
Now, we in the Il-2 community know these aircraft well as we have probably flown them hundreds of times.
As it goes, those monster spats are going to be an issue:
The only thing even remotely close would be the spats on the early Ju-52's.
I hope its possible to enlarge them.
That nose is a bit of a problem as well with that shape and all of those windows:
I cannot find a reasonable substitute that is already in Il-2. The closest thing would be to enlarge and lengthen the nose on a TB-3 and then just make a skin with fake windows. A piss poor excuse I know, but I see no other alternative.
As far as I can see, the shape is basically just a giant TB-3 with an enclosed cockpit and tail surfaces and engines from the Pe-8, albeit two more than what the Pe-8 actually had.

I know that some of you may look at this as a stupid and/or useless idea, but I and hopefully others see it as an opportunity to dive deeper into alternate histories.
Maybe it would be a good bomber but I think it would be cool to disgorge hundreds of paratroopers behind the lines.
Just my thoughts.
Sincerely,
James
