Proper Mustang Stance
« on: May 15, 2016, 05:45:51 PM »

Please do kill me, this is more of a technical modder question than a request I have noticed that most die cast models and also in IL2 that the P-51 looks right with the wheels down......but only as far as a pre-landing configuration. Once the Mustang is on the ground the shock compresses and the landing gear cover come fairly far down over the wheel and tire. In the game the gear or strut cover, whatever it is called, sits over the wheel and tire as if there is no weight on it.

Real correct P-51 - http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2005/12/images/walkaround_p51_d_038.jpg

IL2 1946 incorrect P-51 - http://s648.photobucket.com/user/F22-Raptor-2009/media/p51shoot4.jpg.html

I was wondering if it is possible for this to even be fixed, before I make an official request, like is this something that the limitations of the game would allow to be solved? I have never noticed shocks compressing in the game, and I am certainly no modder so my understanding of these things is pretty limited.

Just curious!! Thank you to F22-Raptor-2006 for the great skins in the pic, it was the first pic of the game that showed the plane's gear while on the ground. Very nice skins!!!!

Its doable and would require 3D/java/FM edit to make it look right. Some of the aircrafts, mostly recent ones has nicely modeled shock absorbers.Dont forget most 3D models in the game is old (not overhauled since orginal il2 from 2001) and simplyfied, their creators skipped this detail thats why they look "stiff".

... yep, Loku is right, a simple 3D fix, like this one (left gear here only) won't be enough ...

... we also need a java mod, like the P-51 Hydraulics one we already have ...

I was shocked seeing really working shock absorbers (pun intended  :) ) on latest P-40's from 4.13. It adds much to realism... from that point of view. I think, though, that it would virtually improve movies only, whereas player from cockpit actually couldn't notice.

... well if you are talking about the gear cover fix (left gear in my screen) this is not a working fix at the moment ...

... if you are talking about the plane, I just sent you a PM, because I am not sure we can post links to that site ...
