Early Avro Lancaster B.Mk I
« on: May 29, 2016, 10:06:03 AM »

Just a small request using an existing lovely flight model-

I was just wondering whether or not someone could produce an early Lancaster B.Mk I, and mid production Mk.I model-

The very earliest production models of the Lancaster did not feature the protruding H2s radome under the mid-upper turret, and had no protruding fairing around the mid upper turret position either-

And mid production models featured the mid upper turret fairing but again had no H2s apparatus apparent-

I'm sorry if this comes across as quite a nit picky request, but I would greatly appreciate some suggestions or editing of the current model so I can finally re create some of the early war low level day light raids, and mine laying operations, and offer some more historical sub variants of famous aircraft within the game-

I'm imagining a late 1942 nights sky full of Wellingtons and early Lancasters (and hopefully soon some early Halifaxes ((Mk I's )) and Stirlings ) for me to throw my 110 around in :-)

(Mid production with mid upper turret fairing and no H2s)

(Early production with no mid upper turret fairing)

Thanks a lot!-

Thanks a lot!,
But would you know how I would go about doing this, due to the fact that the most I really know how to do is add aircraft and objects to the game, not how to edit them once they are actually in there-

Kind regards-

Check in the Tech Help - making mods section, that should get you started. ;)

Personnally, having just the H2S radar as a loadout option would satisfy me : this way, no supplementary files, and slot preservation for other planes !

Just to illustrate the advice given, and yes, I know this is not the tech help section,

@  Hauptmann Held ....  you say you can add mods, then this should be straight-forward

1   Open the "plane_Lancaster_v3.1_412" folder.
2   Navigate to the "3do/Plane/Lancaster" folder.
3   Look for the hier.him file, save a backup copy then open it in notepad.
4   Scroll down until you find this entry...

[H2S]
Mesh H2S
Parent Cf_D0
Attaching 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0.00181 4.53157 -1.98824

Add the word Hidden as shown below

[H2S]
Mesh H2S
Parent Cf_D0
Hidden
Attaching 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0.00181 4.53157 -1.98824

5  Save and close.

This will effectively "hide" the lower blister. Removing the rear turret fairing, however, will need some 3d work as it is part of the CF_D0 mesh.

Try this and see if it at least gives you a slightly more acceptable look.

 ;)

Another option is to edit a copy of the hier.him file as said above, and then to make it activated by JSGME Mod Activator. It's easier than including it as loadout, easy to remove when you want your radome back, and allows you to check if it's activated or not before launching the game.

Using a folder structure following this example, (here, it's for a basic Modact 5.3 install with classic 4.12 Lancaster mod v3.1 added) :

Il-2 1946/JSGMEMODS/Lancaster_NoRadome/#SAS/plane_Lancaster_v3.1_412/3do/Plane/Lancaster/hier.him

So it would replace the previous version of the hier.him file until you decide to have it back, just by disabling your mod in JSGME.
