Gujarat area, Indo-Pakistani war
« on: June 07, 2016, 04:04:05 PM »

Ahem,
basically, with this map I intend to cover the southern area of the western front of Indo-Pakistani war in 1971, it can however be used also for earlier conflicts in the area.

Map is roughly 600 on 800 km, there should be at least 4 military bases for Pakistan and 4 for India. By widening it further 200 km eastwards, I could get at least one more Indian base.

What I am trying to aim for is fairly accurate jetwar map of big size, use of stock textures and use of stock objects. Of course, under 4.12.2 patch.

The biggest obstacle as of now (disregarding the lack of time...) is the size of map - Uzin has recently done his Yugoslavia map's coast by dividing the original map in two and then merging it, I would like to learn how that can be done... as some 560 000 sq. km is a bit too much...

Hi Koty,

A very cool area.  :D I looked around there as well.
If you look on Google Earth with the current Indian Air Force bases they are highly camoed.
They have even camoed runways, taxi areas and parking areas along with their HAS Hardened Aircraft Shelter.
I just ordered some Indian home delivery for today. Delicious curries  ;D

Cheers Kirby

Pfff... so I had to skip the most detailed map and go directly to the half-sized one... xD

And thus: Somewhere in india

Hi Koty busy this afternoon,

Was thinking with your ed_m01 message
A number of things

Try to always index the ed maps in Gimp as ed_m01 can be quite large if not indexed.
Check your size for ed_m01 always 2 x - (smaller than map_c)
Kevin P, I remember included a Java update icon in one of his tutorials.
I recall it was necessary to do to get the map going.

Anyway glad you got it worked out.  :D

I'm surprised that Microdem was not able to do your first map size. I had a mess around map roughly the same size and no problems in Microdem to do at all.

Cheers

Just 2pence:
Size of Yugoslavia map is now 784 x 652,8 km .
Simple java pgm given by KevinP for creating map_c.tga and map_c.tga.table files does not work with it, but that in Map c toolbox v. 1.10 does.

Hi Koty,

Maximum size of ed_m01 you can load is 10'000x10'000 (or 9999x9999 ...)
Your 12192 were above it.
If you are using a real topographic map as a base, it means for 1:1 map (1 pixel = 50m in map_c) a scale somewhere near !:200'000.

I got overambitious trying to use period 1:50000 maps as ed_m01 base and ended up with an oversized file that the game could not load. I was trying to get as high a definition as possible when you zoom in.
This limit means that you are bound to have a blurry phase just before you reach the terrain representation on zoom-ins.

The .bat files worked, I just had to rise the limit to 1024 MB... ...althought the problem might be with actors.static but... that should be just a list of objects so doing it in two phases might work...

I'm surprised that Microdem was not able to do your first map size. I had a mess around map roughly the same size and no problems in Microdem to do at all.

The problem is not with the map size, though. It seems to be Win 10... I will be trying using the compatibility mode next time I do anything as Mike suggested.
