May I ask what the scale of this map is going to be?  just went to Google Earth and a quick measurement shows about 1300km from east to west! That would be great for those of us who like those long missions - and I count myself among those!

When making an original map you can choose what scale you want the map to be in IL-2 1946 in Microdem

by using chose the number of pixels for the map.

An example I recall is 50 pixels for a reasonably small area will give you a 1:1 scale map.

The pixels I chose I think were about 120 for the map.

Mainly to get the area in and not use 200 which can destroy mountainous/volcano areas.

I got it down as low as I could without wrecking mountains/volcanoes and Microdem saying no memory available.  ;D :D

Volcano Textures

Only look at them  :D ;)

Active Volcano

Inactive Volcano

Hunting around for cool volcano textures I recall whitecat's textures for Hawaii slept and live volcano textures.

Mixx's vulcan texture

A mix of Whitecat and Mixx as one texture for the rough looking textures.

Starting texturing this time from country down to lowland.

Also Mark's lava flow texture too  :D

Centering on the mount textures next mostly jungle but nothing finalized yet.

I've include two active volcanoes on reasonably remote islands just for some fun.

It was a terrible year for eruptions in 1942  ;D :D

I recall years ago someone played around with the smoke in game with a volcano and recall photos of a dauntless flying around the finished work.

Will mess around more with that.

Cheers

Thanks guys :D

Just an initial test.

I have to adjust the lava flows some to have both hot and cooled lava flows on each side.

Anyway final adjustments in a day or so.

Mount textures most likely from Mixx.

Midland and Lowland textures all new from the region.

I started work on an East Java map about 6 or 7 years ago; it extended all the way to Kendari, which was the location from which the IJN launched air raids on Soerabaja. It was presumably too big, however, as I never got it to load.

Central Java saw very little aerial action so ignoring it in a map makes sense, especially as it would consume vast resources. Even in 1940 Java was heavily developed and an actors.static would be really huge if central Java were included (east Java is bad enough). One would need a supercomputer to run such a map!

Hi Gerrit9,

I haven't seen you around lately good to see you again.

I recall getting a lot of info from you for the Northern Borneo project.  :D

Just thinking about your last two posts I have 4 words in my mind right now  :D

light actors static version  ;) :)

I haven't majorly populated a reasonable densely populated map area since The Football War map.  :-[

The others Western Australia/Timor, Dutch new Guinea and Northern Borneo were relatively easy to populate.

The map is a continuation from my Western Australia/Timor map as I have a couple of islands repeated in this map along with Agracier'sBatavia map.

You could easily populate like say 70 percent or so of Eastern Java Bali etc and say around 30 percent of Central Java just to give that area a reasonable populated feel to it.

I also wanted to include the 3 major oil fields Semarang and Yogyakarta  ;D

Also wanted to keep the scenic aspects of the map especially fields, jungle, and volcanoes.

Cheers

Besides the Java airfields map for 1942

Here is an oil fields location map.

The 3 oil fields are located with red markers

VIP objectives for the Japanese

Also a Java rail map which will make it more interesting for populating

Centering on textures this month.  ;D :D
