Here is a beginning WIP of Java;Central and Eastern Java,Bali,Lombok,Komodo and South Sulawesi  ;D

I wanted an area of South Sulawesi to include Makassar a jumping off point for the invasion of Java.

The map also includes The Java Sea for the Battle of the Java Sea

Central Java

Bali

Lombok

The load.ini is a temporary load.ini from my Dutch New Guinea map.
I will center on textures from the area as well as including some of Mixx's and Whitecat's textures.

WIP So Far  ;D

A while back I have detailed the coastlines of Central , Eastern Java as well as Bali.
I have detailed the coastlines of South Sulawesi.

I still have to detail the coastlines of Lombok and Komodo.

I'll add more screens and info as I progress  ;D :D ;)

Just for fun and a great song   :D

Cheers

Looks beautiful! Great job! Another excuse for me to get a machine with dedicated graphics to do it justice! 8)

I always loved fighting the losing battle with my Buffalo against swarms of Zeroes, and I still don't know why...  :-| Maybe I shall find out when this map comes to DL!

Can't wait to see it in CUP!

Here's the ed map to give people more of an idea of the area being worked on.

I decided against doing West Java as Agracier had already done that area with his Batavia map.

I also know of another spelling/pronunciation of Java Jawa which sounds even more exciting, mysterious and exotic  :D

I didn't want to cut any islands in half which is why I also included Lombok, Komodo and many other islands.

Texturing will also be highly volcanic due to the many volcanoes in the region especially from Mixx and Whitecat.  ;D

Rice fields rice terrace fields etc etc textures from the region as well  :D

Hey Farang,

Congrats on selecting a very much needed geographic area for its historical significance.
I am truly looking forward to this map. Great choice !

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

Kirby, you're the right person to do this job.  I'm sure it'll look great.  Java is heavily populated and that's what scared me away from it.
Great choice of locations not doing western Java and including the smaller islands east.  I have the book "Every Day a Nightmare" about the U.S. pilots there.  It has some information about how the airfields looked - if you need help with that.  But you could maybe find the info on the internet too.

Hi Jeff,

I found this picture of airfields in Java in 1942  ;D

I knew of some through Pacificwrecks but not all of them.

I also know that a couple of them were well camoed and secret airfields as the Dutch had around 12 or so secret airfields throughout the Dutch East Indies

This airfields location map is great  :D There is also one on Bali.Denpassar.  ;D

The Japanese invaded Timor and Bali on the same day and used the airfield on Bali for the invasion of Java

I enlarged the image a tad

Also I am sure copy/pasting a multitude of different villages for a month   ;D

Cheers

About 10 years ago, I was in touch with the "Burma Star Association", and the Dutch East Indies Group, their name escapes me now.  I made the scenarios for the CS series Dutch East Indies campaigns.  I was pretending like I wasn't such the airplane freak I am...nevertheless, I still have my notes from interviews and so on.  Any specific questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  I'll see what I have.  For Java, Kalidjati was the first and most important, initially, best left for populating Agraciers "Batavia" map.  After Kalidjati fell, it was a rout.  I also have the notes from Kendari, Balikpapan and Bandjermassin, Kuching and the Sumatra fighting, up through Lake Toba.

Cheers and cannot wait.

...and even on Sinkawang II.  If I can help, don't hesitate to ask.  I'll look it up.

This looks great! Thank you for this job Kirby!
Main thing in this map, is Soerabaja area. This is airfield, where dutch CW-21's saw action for the first time. Since this aircraft was released as flyable, i dreamed about Soerabaja area map, to create CW-21 realistic actions, now its possible, thank you again Kirby!
So, what you can say about release map, when this great event happened? Probably, few months?
