Good modern combat flight simulator?
« on: August 22, 2016, 07:19:02 AM »

Hi,

I'm looking for a good modern combat flight sim. I've looked at DCS: World, but I don't think it will run well on my X1 Carbon. I have Falcon: BMS, but the are only a few flyable aircraft with modeled cockpits. Are there any other modern combat sims I'm missing or should I just stick with Falcon?

You got a simplified version of DCS in FC 3 with less complexity . I ran this very well with a gtx 480 .
DCS run better in  my rig than any other simulator.
FC 3 bring along the first version of the A 10 and SU 25 , SU 27 and F 15

Are there 3rd party mods for more planes for it, or is the base game all there is?

DSC FC 3 features the F-15C, A10-A, SU27, Mig29A, SU-25T and SU-25.  I would recommend that you at least visit the DSC web site and look at the FC3 information.
Good hunting ;)

IL2-1946+Mods.

I don't agree it, from modder eyes.

Even how I / WE try and try to make Jets' behaviors and armaments / avionics more realistic in IL-2 1946 rules , they are very hard and their improvements are slow and slow.
I feel if I'll pay 5 years from now for them, I'll not reach the simulator level of today's DCS or BMS.

For cheap PC, both DCS and BMS can choose low video options like low display resolution / no self shadow / trees and houses disappear not so far.
With those setting options, DCS and BMS are playable enough, I think.

I highly recommend Strike Fighter 2, there are huge selections of add-on mods for it at combatace community and SF2 (Short for Strike Fighter 2) are simple and realistic at the same time.  If you remember Jane's Fighter Anthology, SF2 are similar to it where you just jump into plane and focus on few controls.  You can find more information about SF2 series at thirdwire website.

I find the helicopter and jet mods very admirable and fantastic in this simulator, however for multiplayer , realism and community DCS is just in another century. I myself miss offline campaign made by Poltava and jets very much. And the Vietnam props are priceless . When I got a new rig I will make sure I got Hard-disc space enough to keep a modded IL 2 and figure how my hardware can be adapted for it. Maybe use a old computer and try to proxy load the game or something.
But for modern air warfare I think DCS, Falcon BMS and Strike fighter (never heard about it) would be the best
