DOF Problem with the N17b "Engine Inoperable"
« on: September 05, 2016, 10:48:08 AM »

Is there any fix for the "Engine In-Opp" message for the Nieuport 17b when a second person joins the mission?
DOF works fine as does the rest of Cup. This only happens if two users try to fly together with the N17b.
The N28CI works just fine and I do note it is listed in the /FM folder found in the /#DOF  folder, but there is no mention of the N17 or N17b.
It was also noted that Magneto1 is the only selection that can be applied? Mag 2 and mag 1+2 are not selectable - even though the controls are set correctly.
Some time back  everything worked fine and I can't put my finger on when it changed.
Flying the N17b in QMB  it has no issues - everything works just fine.
I did try a restore back to Module update #10 but it still happens?  The content of the #DOF folder is radically different with 10 compared to the #DOF folder from the last 12B update.  I had hoped  this would resolve this. Perhaps it is because other files were changed as well.
Does anyone know if there is a solution?
Love this sim and very much appreciate everyone's hard work with CUP.   Every time I fly it -  you make my day.

Nyali,
I posted a question under the  C.U.P.- Module 02 - Dawn of Flight Pt-10 -   but received no reply?
Just wondered if it was viewed or no one else has this problem?
This is the  CUP  Tech Help  page right?
Seems strange I and those with whom I fly are the only ones  .

can I suggest patience while you wait for someone like Monty to check into this, it may also be worth searching for and checking the original thread for the Nieuport 17b BEFORE it was used in CUP. This way you may find a fix that somehow got missed when it was added to CUP.

Thanks  SAS~Gerax and SAS~CriX I really appreciate your response.

Just wanted to make an update to this issue. -  N17b engine in-op when someone else joins the mission.
I created a new game form the IL2 CD [5 games in 0ne] loaded the super pack to 4.12.2m and loaded Mocdac5.30.
Tested - and it ran OK.
Then loaded all the MEE-01 through -14 plus the MME_LATEST file.
I then loaded just the DOF modules form 01 through 06 [Restore point] and tested on line with some friends and the Nieuport flies just fine.  :)
Everything works,  engine, both guns, the works.  Really lively little plane and a real tussle with Eindecker III's.
Next we loaded the Pt 7 and it still runs as designed - no issues.
Loaded part 8 and again tested and we had no issues joining and flying together.

So the next test will be with Pt 9.  -  We had to stop as we were getting hand cramps from all the joy stick action  :)
With luck we can find the point where the engine of the N17b becomes In-op and with a little luck and patience maybe someone can  help us work out what went wrong and if we cam fix this super little plane.
Thank to Mustang and PD - who also went through the rebuild process as well.  So we were all on the same page to start.
I would be remiss if I did not again thank all who were involved in this terrific CUP build.
You have given us untold  hours of enjoyment.   I can only forward our appreciation and thanks.

So tonight we have tested to DOF Module 09 and everything works OK..

But when we went to Module 10 [RP],   all the problems with the engine appeared.
Module 10 is a Restore Point as well and something has changed in the SFS_DOF files

in the 09 Module the
DOF22.sfs file size is   81,826 KB and
DOF23.sfs  file size is  61,463 KB

DOF Module 10[RP]
DOF22.sfs file size is  280,631 KB
DOF23.sfs file size is  413,653 KB

Once we go to DOF Module 10 [RP] I believe other Nieuport's were added and unfortunately we loose the ability to fly the N17b.
Individually we can join a mission and everything is normal -  but as soon as another pilot joins the mission the engine will say In-op and stop if you are flying,  and not start if you are on the ground.

Is any of this info of use to someone who knows the structure of these files and can see if something was missed that rendered the N17 b engine in-op?  I would be most grateful  for your help.

Would really like to fly this beast as it is a good match for the Foker D1's

As always - thanks for all the work you do and all the joy that you bring.

Kind regards
Rod.

I can't help with the nieuport as I do not play WWI
and especially can't help when it comes to play online.   :-|

But what I do in similar cases (a plane doesn't work as I expect):
I simply install the latest (or sometimes other) versions of this plane,
rename them to become prominent in the folders laod order
and then try what I get.

Maybe a idea...  ;)

Thanks Gerax..
Will take a look and see.
Certainly worth a try.
Worst case we could always stay at Pt 09.
