I have bought several more books along the way, I don't think your pilot was correct.

I have even done some statistical analysis, and every way I play out the equations, we were simply producing the Germans.

The most significant factor was the location. British pilots could be shot down in the morning and flying again the same afternoon.

German pilots once shot down were out of the war.

I was really suprised how bad the English channel was, I assumed landing in the ditch meant an uncomfortable day or two then back home for tea and medals.

Not at all.

Landing in the water was just about a death sentence.

This book might have some of the stats you are looking for.  I started to read it but it seemed more of a textbook approach if you get my meaning.

I'd suggest getting in contact with Dave Brocklehurst MBE of the Kent Battle of Britain Museum at Hawkinge. He is extremely knowledgeable as well as being close friends with RAF Battle of Britain Pilots past and present. I'm sure he could help answer questions you have.
