Thank you 101 and Mike. This is one that I have been waiting for years to see in game. I love it. :)

Thanks !

But there is no arresting hook and no airbrake .
These features should be available on a navy plane , imo .

Airbrake? No. There is no airbrake on the flying flapjack.
Remember you're flying a lift body, use AoA if you want to go slower.

Tailhook? Yes and No.
Yes because the F5U, if it ever entered serial production, would have been equipped with one.
Here's a nice illustration of the hook mechanism, unfortunately it's a very complicated one and therefore requires a capable 3D modder to build the relevant parts:

No because the XF5U-1 prototype which has been built here just didn't have that hook:

I am sleep deprived, so I thought I was hallucinating when I saw this! Thanks a million, I can stay up another hour to fly this.

Just for the record, there's a couple of things being worked on at the moment:
  • Tiny Tim loadout option
  • CoG correction to avoid the current tendency to nose over on brakes
  • Code cleanup

Let me correct myself, some things were missing on the list

  • Tiny Tim loadout option
  • CoG correction to avoid the current tendency to nose over on brakes
  • Code cleanup
  • Replace vectoring Prop+Hub with simulated cyclic prop movement.
That is, only rotating props can be vectorized (cyclic blade movement has no effect when the blade doesn't move through the air fast enough) and only the prop itself will move, not the hub.
Needs some 3D work to be done so bear with me as I'm not a 3D expert, just learning slowly.
  • Simulate driving both prop shafts from one engine.
Needs massive Java Code works but that's no biggie :D

If the carrier is doing 30 knots, and the Flapjack can come aboard at 40 knots, would a tailhook actually be nessessary?

You don't need the hook as long as you fly the flapjack in clean condition (no ordnance) and undamaged.
I guess that's why they didn't care for a hook on the prototypes.

The jockey of a serial production F5U in combat however will appreciate a hook when he returns his damaged F5U for sure.
And his C.O. will appreciate that he doesn't have to jettison all stores before landing that way.
