recently i decided to get back into modelling, not done any since around 1990 or thereabouts.
decided to start with the trusty old basic Tamiya 1/35 PzKpfw II, and to test out my airbrushing skills for the very first time.
this is the first of several vehicles, and some ships which i have lined up to keep me busy for the next few years.
sadly i didn't think to take any pics in the earlier stages, so at this point i have already done most of the paint, varnished and some weathering. i have a few vehicles in this scale which will ultimately be part of a diorama.
i will attempt to keep a better pictorial record of future builds.
for now, i'm not to unhappy with how this one is looking, considering it's my first airbrush attempt.

Looks very nice, good job!  I see you have given it the appearance of wear and tear on the wheels and suspension, makes it look pretty realistic. I was never able to master that.

That is a prety coool looking model. Great detailing and attention to the small parts.
I also used to build a few panzer models back in my younger years. Never used an airbrush, only brushes and Q-Tip swabs!

cheers - i haven't mastered it yet, either, but i certainly enjoy spending time doing the weathering details.
still a little bit more to do with this one before i give it a final clear coat, then time for the next, which i'm still deciding on....

I have been meaning to paint a variation of one of our vehicles to represent some of
those British Desert Rat-Patrols from WW2    with human models too.

The pink panther version is a weird color scheme, but it did the job in the Sahara sands.

You sure got alot of new models to keep ya busy!

The Tamiya boxes bring back good childhood memories.  Where are those days:
I still have the old 1980's Tamiya catalogues with diorama pictures in.
When I had collected some money I definately wanted to have the Pink Panther Land Rover.
Untill I opened the box in the toyshop... I was shocked to see the brigth pink plastic parts. 






But with some patience, airbrush and weathering you can make something really nice out of it.

So this is where you've disappeared to, huh..? All that aside, wonderful job with the vehicle! To be honest, I've only built aircraft kits and not a single vehicle. I think it's time to chase that, but even I too can't decide what to build next, and have so many kits to build, but I'm more focusing IL-2 modding at the moment..

did the finish coat this morning, and spotted an oopsy right at the end, a drop of something (solvent, i guess) got on one of the rear panels - never noticed it until this stage, so will need to do a touch-up there, or try and turn it into some type of oil stain/weathering option.

other than that, i'm pretty happy with it - not too shabby for an airbrush noobie

Do you have any of those amazing wheathering products of the now? A lot has happened since 1990...

This got me thinking: How many of us on the forum are ex-plastic modellers or ex-military?
I should do a poll... I would tick both boxes!

That's a very good artistic "comeback" Eugene, keep up the good work. I, too, gave up modelling 20 years ago (lack of time); at that time I assembled and painted metal figures (90mm and 54mm), mostly from the Napoleonic period; but I have had my (happy) diorama season (1:32) and I am seriously thinking of giving it a new try very soon...

i'm definitely going to do a diorama or two, specifically looking forward to doing one for my ship kits (will post more on those in another thread)
many of my kits have some figures included, and i have also bought a few sets just with figures for diorama purposes.
@ Zoran, yes mate - my very first airbrush job
i followed the painting guides in some youtube videos, and although mine didn't turn out quite as good as those, it's pretty close.
Tamiya acrylics mostly, with some enamels here and there.
i don't have any fancy weathering stuff - very limited here in SA, as far as that's concerned - i mainly just do dry-brushing for weathering atm...
