Thank you cordially, Mike.
I have been fiddling with virtual memory settings, but with no success.
Perhaps it is the time to buy better rig, even if I am 75 yrs old, lol..
The problems appear only with huge maps, as it is Yugoslavia now. I hope I shall finish it, only re-testing and adjusting of airfield functionality remains essentially.
Next time, it would be better not to deal with such a huge maps, lol.
Best regards,
Ivan

Hi Uzin

"I am primarily interested in  MapBuilder, where no Il-2 selector is used."

I'm not sure I understand you correctly, are you not using IL-2 Selector when you are using FMB as a MapBuilder?
Yes, I am not using Il-2 Selector when using MapBuilder, it is made of 4.101 Il-2 version, where Selector is absent. Can you advise me which version of Il-2 has Selector even for MapBuilder , please ?

I accidently tried to open your Yugoslavia map with FMB in "MapBuilder" mode and then I got a memory error in the log file, I thought that error was a memory error for the Java VM. I tried to increase the Java memory but I haven't been able to open the Yugoslavia map in FMB in "MapBuilder" mode yet.

What memory setting do you have for the Java VM?

I did not adjust Java VM at all, restart of WinXP helps to open the map in MapBuilder. This is the trouble I cannot solve on my old computer.
Best regards,
Ivan

Hi Ivan

The SAS Selector works on all IL-2 versions 4.09-4.13:

When you say "MapBuilder" do you mean unlocked FMB?

Good luck!

Yes, precisely, according to Kevin's manual.

What is your rig ?
Other maps are regulary opening here, just huge Yugoslavia one makes trouble sometimes.
Good luck to you, too.
Ivan

EDIT:  Does Selector work also with unlocked FMB aka MapBuilder?

Hi Ivan

Unlocked FMB is a part of IL-2 1946 so the Selector should work AFAIK.

A suggestion:
Start the Task manager and check the Performance tab and the Virtual memory size there and have it running when you start IL-2.

I have 2GB set in IL-2 Modder and have tested different Virtual memory settings but I can't load Yugoslavia map in Unlocked FMB.  :(

When IL-2 is up and running is my virtual memory (modded 4.12) 1.16 GB and when I try to load Yugoslavia map in Unlocked FMB it CTD at 1,82GB.

I tried with stripped air.ini and all.ini files but that didn't make any difference.
Perhaps a stripped static.ini could help?

My PC:
Win XP
4 GB RAM

Hi, Per,
what do you precisely mean by stripped file ?

Yugoslavia map opens in MapBuilder at my comp without Selector, but it takes too much time - up to 165 secs, and sometimes the launch of MapBuilder after freshly re-starting  WinXP is necessary, othervise CTD sometimes appear . It makes testing and correcting tha airfields a real pain. Maybe the fine tuning of the Selector might help, but I am a noob in this matter, so I am afraid not to get things even worse.
Best regards,
Ivan

Hi Ivan

I meant a static.ini file with only the needed objects for Yugoslavia map. I don't know if all objects in the static.ini are loaded in memory or only those that are used on the map.

Try different RAM settings in the Selector, if it doesn't improve you can simply return to previous values.

It's only needed to run the Selector when you wants to change the game type or the memory settings of the game. If you don't change anything, just run il2fb.exe.

Have you monitored your memory usage with the Task manager?

Best Regards

Have you monitored your memory usage with the Task manager?

Task manager shows 1 231 404 kB memory uage, when MapBuilder opens Yugoslavia map successfully.
Then the usage dropped as shown in a picture:

Did you succeded in opening Yugoslavia map in MapBuilder? After freshly re-starting WinXP ?

Btw, what do you say to sand colour on the Jadran  islands ?

The memory usage I wrote about is total memory on the system as shown in the Performance Tab, not only IL-2.
No I've never succeeded and fresh restart doesn't help.
The shore texture looks better than the previous more yellowish sand texture IMHO.

It would be nice if anyone has suggestions how to lower memory usage when using unlocked FMB on large maps.

After success in opening MapBuilder with Yugoslavia again, when il2fb.exe usage of memory went though a peak as shown above,   the Task manager shows as here:

Hi Ivan

I was able to start Yugoslavia map successfully in unlocked FMB now.  :)
It was my own fault since I hadn't done the RAM settings in IL-2 Modder in the correct way.  :-[
I selected 1024MB as suggested by Storebror and now the map loads up fine.  :)

Best Regards

I am glad for you.
And what about the time which opening of the map takes ?
Did you tried priority settings in task manager ?
