Many thanks to Gerax for quoting this workaround.
I'll keep it in mind when I'm back to my FMB adventures.

The title of this thread should be 'general FMB issue' not BAT Issue.  What a load of bollocks in fact.  This OLD issue is well known, part of learning FMB and sod all to do with whether or not you have installed B.A.T.  Just another false flag...

again, thanks to all for the assistance. I have tested the below FMB workaround in my BAT install.

laugust5, go here:

and read especially sputnikshocks reply:

Quote
When creating a plane, hit 'show' on the first tab of the object window.
Once the 3d preview of the plane has loaded, you won't see the FMB error
as you proceed to tabs like waypoint, plane1 etc.

This should work for all planes wich cause this bug.
Please try and report.

With success using the HE-219 & all versions of the Halifax. Unfortunately, the Lancaster appears to be a problem still. Hitting the "show" window, there is no 3d Lancaster, just an empty blue field.

Oh, well I guess I can try the old editing the .mis file & see if that works.

Thanks for the patience, (excuse my newbie ignorance of previous posts) & all the help & advice.

HAIL BAT, HAIL HANGAR 19!

It seems you have a problem with "weapon_ru.properties".  ;)

Strange. I tested this, started BAT, opened FMB, loaded a map, loaded the Lanc,
did the described above "procedure" and voila, was OK, 3d shows, no freeze.
What to do now? Test if this "procedure" is enough.
Maybe the bug returns when you load another plane wich needs this procedure
in the same "FMB session"? Please play a little with this and report
as I do not have the time today to test this.

Well, I tested your suggestion, started BAT, opened FMB, loaded a map, loaded the Lanc,

when I hit "view" no 3d plane, just a blank blue window again & this time since I wasn't attempting to change from another plane to the Lancaster, it didn't even give me the option of waypoint, waypoint options or individual plane tabs....this even though I had selected 4 planes in the properties tab...I know strange.

I also tried the procedure of loading and saving a different aircraft, saving, exiting & then attempting to edit the ,mis file to change the aircraft to the Lancaster. When I tried to then load the mission, it doesn't load properly, you just get a funny blue landscape with trees. Also strange.

Finally, I should report that I attempted to load the Lancaster into the QMB, which it does give the option to do, but when you attempt to select the radio button to open & modify the aircraft, you are not allowed to do so. In other words, the Lancaster is not available for me in FMB or QMB.

It was mentioned by bomberkiller that I may have a problem with "weapon_ru.properties.

If there is more advice or something I should try, I'm all ears.

I'm beginning to think that I am jinxed on this, I can't imagine why, I have two completely fine BAT downloads thru EXP 05 that work in all other regards with the minor tweaking that's gone on. I'd love to be able to use the Lancaster.

For now I'm substituting the Lincoln, but its a bit frustrating that others are OK with the Lanc.

Thanks for all the help.

Gerhard has nailed again.  Some of us have been doing this for years, so long in fact that it ceases to be an issue...

This is EXACTLT RIGHT - and you can then go on to change planes within the mission building session.  Here is another demo with pictures:

Among many other previous 'bugs' with modded Il2, B.A.T. has also solved the so called '3d window' problem, for a limited number of early modded aircraft, in Full Mission Builder.  This is because PAL's Utilities (by SAS~Benitomuso) are always 'ON', built in.

The correct method is to open the 3d preview window, even before you load a suitable map.  Let's have a look shall we?  Yes, all there as expected...

Now lets load a map, La Chute looks ideal.

Now draw some flights.

Change aircraft in the flight.

Stick to the 'problem' aircraft.  All clearly visible in FMB, no crash or lockup.

Drawing the flights we find we can now open the 3d preview window even for individual members of the flight!  All types of Halifax, Lanc and Wellie, no problem.

You should be able to do this and if you can see images like this your FMB is working fine.

See the pictures?  I took them during one FMB session.  I strongly suggest you try to do the same.  Not more anecdotes, lets see the pictures!

could it be that there are some problems with hires parts of the lancaster?
laugust, what happens when you load the lanc in QMB, what tells the log?

Yes, I made the assumption you can at least see it in other preview windows.  In this, QMB is a useful preview for the real thing; FMB.

OK. Thanks Sirs for the continued assistance. I went back & tested as asked in both QMB & FMB with associated screenshots & logfiles. hopefully this will narrow my "General Issue" issue.

First QMB: I loaded my "player" aircraft as Hawker Hurricane Early 1938 & 1 team AI aircraft as the Lancaster. As before, it is impossible to modify/detail the Lancaster using the radio button at the far right of the line, while it is possible to do so with the Hurricane. here is the screen shot of the QMB setup page.

So I was able to actually fly the mission as the Hurricane, but if you attempt to "see" the Lancaster using (Shift F2), no Lancaster.

I quit the mission and then here is the associated logfile:

OK, FMB testing next. I launched BAT, select FMB, without selecting a map, hit "View" first I select aircraft Hallifax BIII, 1943. It shows the 3d plane just as in your example. here is the screen shot.

No problem, now I select the Lancaster & as soon as I do, I get the same result as before. The name of the aircraft is there but no 3d plane, just an empty blue field. here is the screenshot:

I didn't think there was any point in going further, as there is no plane, so I quit the mission & here is the logfile.

Again, many thanks for your time and assistance. Hopefully there is a fix & this is just a simple error on my part. I'll be sad if it a result of my download, because I've done two complete working BAT's.

Many thanks.
