I can't run B.A.T.
« on: January 15, 2017, 06:11:29 PM »

1) I have installed il2 Sturmovik from CD 4.11.1m
2) I have installed patch 4.12.2m in the main game folder
3) I have installed B.A.T. in the main game folder
When I try to run the game (il2fb.exe) it starts as 4.12.2m - and I think it's correct
When I try to run the game (IL2 Selectror.exe)  it also starts as 4.12.2m - and I think it's correct ... but
When I try to change game type in IL2 Selector there are no options to choose!!! - it's strange and I have no idea what is installed wrong. Any suggestions???

did you extract the BAT files into a common folder and run the installer from there ?

download the manual and read it

I have also heard recently of Anti Virus programs that delete the B.A.T. Selector each time you change Eras.  An over-zealous Anti Virus can be tested by turning it off, remain offline, and testing B.A.T.  The answer is then to add an exception and tell your Anti Virus to leave it alone!

Believe it or not several very experienced sim flyers I know are still ocassionally held to ransom by these tyrannical little jobs-worths!

1 - il2 1946 4.11.1m is installed & patched to 4.12.2m and works properly
2 - I have put (not extract, just put) all downloaded B.A.T. zip parts & BAT v1.0 Setup.exe into a specially created folder "BAT Super Mod" on my Desktop.
3 - I have run BAT v1.0 Setup.exe and then direct the installer towards my main game folder
4 - In my main game folder all B.A.T. folders have appeared:
BAT00 - 20.30 GB 93 Files
BAT01 - 3.75 GB 26 Files
BAT02 - 2.80 GB 19 Files
BAT03 - 13.60 GB 75 Files
BAT04 - 6.20 GB 42 Files
Mod folder: #DOF2 - 392 MB
Mod Folder: #TGA2 - 455 MB
Mod folder: #WAW2 - 419 MB
Mod Folder: #JTW2 - 371 MB
5 - When I try to run the game from IL-2 Selector.exe it starts as 4.12.2m
6 - When I try to change settings (IL-2 Selector.exe & Game Type) there are no options to choose
7 - Help!

thats one of the reason why I do not use any setup exe file when I can achieve the same thing manually with simple copying around of files and folders - pls do not take this as an offense, I know it is hard to get everything up and running in the first place...talking about my own experience when I got a little deeper into modding.

so take my advice only if you are familiar with file handling using the standard windows explorer thingie;

0) make sure you have a working 4.12.2 PLUS MODACT 5.3 PLUS AI FLYABLES (the latter just to be sure ;) ) game up and running! test if the modact stuff works!
1) copy all the zip files you got after the torrent PLUS all the expansion packs into a single temporary folder - you can name that folder as you please
2) Get a beer/coffee/zigarette/whatever and start to unzip all the zipped files in sequence - it takes about 15 to 25 minutes to do that;
3) if any of the unzippling processes ask you for permission to overwrite (stay in sequence) - YESSSSSS let it do so
4) after you have finished unzipping everything - nicynice, you should have a very large temporary folder now containing all the stuff you need for modding your game
5) now mark and copy the WHOLE CONTENT OF THE TEMPORARY FOLDER (not the folder itself) over into the root directory of your WORKING 4.12.2 + Modact 5.3
folder; if ask for permission to overwrite stuff - YESSS AGAIN
6) everything should work now as advertised - from starting with the basic MA5.3 game to a full BAT experience, it took me about an hour (I had to cuddle our puppy
    dog and play with her in between as well) so the whole process is fairly quick and fairly easy and straightforward;

this should work - oh and do not forget to set up your conf.ini properly as well, guides on how to do that can be found here in the forums.....

let us know how it worked out

cheers
phil

I have to stress though that the installer does pretty much the same thing ;)
Nevertheless, the reported issue
When I try to change settings (IL-2 Selector.exe & Game Type) there are no options to choose
plain simply means that there's no "il2fb.ini" file in the regarding game folder and/or the whole thing has been installed to a folder which uses symbolic links internally (like "C:\Program Files (x86)" linked to "C:\Programme (x86)" on a german OS) and frankly it's been stated a few thousand times already that the only valid starting point for a modded IL-2 installation is outside the "Program Files" folder (and even then... when you run the installer as admin, it will do the trick...).

Best regards - Mike

1 - I have installed il2 Sturmovik from CD 4.11.1m (at C:il2/)
2 - I have installed patch 4.12.2m in the main game folder
3 - I have installed B.A.T. manually (like in Griffon_301 post) but I did not change config.ini
4 - Now I can choose all B.A.T. mods in IL-2 Selector.exe
5 - DOF does not answer at 60% ; TGA, WAW, JTW starts properly but when I choose a plane and click FLY (in quick mission) "file is corrupted" appears.
6 - When config.ini is modified game always hanging and doesn't reply (usually at 20%)

This thread paints endless question marks on my face.

1 - I have installed il2 Sturmovik from CD 4.11.1m (at C:il2/)
Where on this planet can one buy an IL-2 1946 CD with version 4.11.1m on it?

make sure you have a working 4.12.2 PLUS MODACT 5.3 PLUS AI FLYABLES (the latter just to be sure ;) ) game up and running! test if the modact stuff works!
Why?

I mean why at all point someone who already fails to do the idiot-proof installer way right straight to the much harder way of doing it all manually?
I don't think this will make things better.

I did not change config.ini
There is no "config.ini".

Why not just run the installer, point it to C:\IL2 (or wherever you have installed your game plus the 4.12.2 Mega Patch) and let it do it's job?
All you need to do is TAKE CARE whether the Installer tells you something about an error in your files and/or an error during extraction.
If either occurs, you're doomed unless you re-download the broken files.
If the Installer has nothing to complain, then everything went right, period.
It's self-checking it's own integrity, the integrity of the files and the integrity of the extraction process.

WHY attempt to do it the hard way, WHY not just do it the easy way a 2nd time, carefully, when it failed for the first time?

Best regards - Mike

1 - I have created new folder "il2" (C:il2/) and I have installed il2 1946 (from original CD - I have bought it in Poland - CENEGA publisher) and the game starts as 4.11.1m and works properly.
2 - I have patched the game and it starts as 4.12.2m and works properly.
3 - I have put all downloaded B.A.T. zip parts & BAT v1.0 Setup.exe into a new folder "BAT Super Mod" on my Desktop.
4 - I have run BAT v1.0 Setup.exe and then direct the installer towards my main game folder (C:il2/)
5 - In my main game folder (C:il2/) all B.A.T. folders have appeared:
BAT00 - 20.30 GB 93 Files
BAT01 - 3.75 GB 26 Files
BAT02 - 2.80 GB 19 Files
BAT03 - 13.60 GB 75 Files
BAT04 - 6.20 GB 42 Files
Mod folder: #DOF2 - 392 MB
Mod Folder: #TGA2 - 455 MB
Mod folder: #WAW2 - 419 MB
Mod Folder: #JTW2 - 371 MB
6 - When I try to change settings (IL-2 Selector.exe & Game Type) there are no options to choose. The game starts only as 4.12.2m
I have read the manual very carefully and I did it all very carefully. Any ideas Mr. SAS~Storebror?

Is there an il2fb.ini file in your IL-2 game folder?
If not: Start from scratch.

I've started from scratch once again with new game folder and...
1 - After install 4.11.1m from DVD - there is no an il2fb.ini file in the main game folder and the game works properly
2 - After install 4.12.2m patch - there is no an il2fb.ini file in the main game folder and the game works properly
3 - After install B.A.T. (BAT v1.0 Setup.exe) - there is no an il2fb.ini file in the main game folder but... il2fb.ini appears in the main game folder after I've run IL-2 Selector.exe (but still there are no options to choose in Game Type window).
Any suggestions?
