Andalucia Map - Retextured Version in 1024
« on: May 08, 2010, 09:42:14 AM »

Here is a link to a totally retextured and remapped version of Andalucia. The terrain map has been redone from scratch and new textures made and used in the map. Objects have remained in place though, so existing missions and campaigns will not be affected.

There are new and separate map_T and FMB maps and load.ini files which will not overwrite your old existing versions. So you may safely overwrite files if asked. Though as usual, it is best to make backups first, just in case ...

Here are some screenshots, with new FMB map, the snows of the Sierra Nevada, the plains of Andalucia, the olive orchards of Jaen, marshy coastal areas and the terrain in general ...

I don't think so ...

I just finished these maps yesterday and the links are just up. Now, they might have the previous versions in UP, the 512 texture versions, but in all honesty I really don't know either since it gets hard to keep track of them all ...

But let's assume these 1024 versions are not in UP2.01 at the moment.

Thanks Agracier for more very nice work!

Might I ask if the grass runways are intende to be as bumpy as they are? And give you the "heads up" on a problem with the SW corner of the map? In both 2D and 3D views in FMB, the program freezes, and the only way out is through task manager.

Thanks again, superb work.  :)

I was deeply moved by your map Agracier, my dad who was born in Barcelona, fought this war on both sides ...

Yes, both sides, first on the Republican side as a truck driver and mechanic, he told me he was wounded by a Stuka (he had a long scar on his leg) and then when Barcelona was "conquered" by the Franco troops, he discarded of his uniform and went back home. A neighbour that had known him since he was born betrayed him and told the facists he had fought with the Republicans ...

The war was not over, they needed more fresh troops to conquer the rest of Spain, so he was given the choice between fighting with them or be taken to the firing squad ...

Luckily because of his mechanical skills (cars and trucks were not that reliable at the time ..) he became the chauffeur of a general, so he didn't kill anybody while fighting on the "wrong" side ...

I am now eager to fly a campaign using your wonderful map, Agracier, may be on both sides too ...  ;D

There is something odd about runways ... so often I flatten them and then they revert to bumpy terrain ... so no, they are not intended to be bumpy. I'll get a fix for the height map on this ...

On the freezing, someone reported a sort of shaking of the screen ... which was fixed or repaired more or less by pressing on any key - or so it was posted ...

I've never encountered anything like this though. The actors file is the same as the original map, so is the height and f map, only FMB map and terrain maps have been changed and the textures of course. But if textures are corrupt or unusable, the whole map won't load at all ... so it must be something else ...

If anyone has run into this map behaving oddly when you are flying along the edges of the map - say around Ceuta/Gibraltar or Guadix - there is a fix for this which i will post soon - several new textures are 16million color tga's or 3mb sized files, while they should be 8bit, 256 colors and 1 mb sized files ...

You can either reduce the respective files yourself by looking for the 3mb sized texture files in the Andalucia_2 folder, or else wait fr the new textures which i will post here ...

Sorry for the fault, but I recently bought a new seamless texture making utility and without my realizing it, it automatically turns all tiles it makes into 16million colors ...

Hello again Agracier,

No apology necessary, I, and many others here, are only too grateful to those who take time on these projects. I just love using them, while not having the faintest idea of how to make them! So I'll wait for the fix.
The jittery screen is indeed in the Gibraltar area. Also, I've had a test flight from Granada, and found a gap in the runway/taxiway plate there. Sorry to be such a pain, but I'm sure you'd rather these bugs are ironed out.  :)

Cheers mate.
