Macchi MC-72 Schneider Trophy Seaplane
« on: May 02, 2017, 06:26:01 AM »

I would like to be able to experience all the drama and excitement of Schneider Trophy Races in IL2. I think it would be the perfect addition to 'The Golden Age' in BAT. My dream would be to see the Supermarine S5, Supermarine S6, and a couple of the Macchi MC series of seaplanes. To begin with I propose a request for the greatest Schneider Trophy seaplane of them all:

Does anyone here share my love and interest of the Schneider Trophy Seaplanes ?

MACCHI MC 72

This airplane was already made, but its a bit of a frankenplane.
A little difficult to paint skins for.

The aircraft I am talking about was already released along time ago,  when I was still using the DBW-4.10 game.
Maybe around 3 to 4 years ago.
II I remember correctly, it was a pack with 3 seaplane aircraft for the Schneider trophy. All frankenplanes.
I have forgotten who created them, but I think they are still posted somewhere. Either here or at IL2freemodding when
some guys moved their stuff over there. They look pretty cool for frankenplanes.

If you cannot discover them, I have them stored in my portable 1-Terabyte hardrive. I usually collect everything that was ever
made for the IL2-1946+mods. Nothing is lost or never disappears !  :D

When we talk about Piaggo P7 here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,73703.0.html#new
This plane still waits for its resurrection. Never in the history nor in the future there is an equal rival for this sovereign beauty.
Yesterday ninety years ago...

On October 23, 1934, Maresciallo Francesco Agello took off aboard a Macchi M.C.72 and reached a speed of 709.207 kph (440.681 mph). This world record has not been and probably will not be broken in the category of piston-engined seaplanes.
I know we have some representation of the M.C.72 in the Il-2. But I also know that we have much more precisely processed models of aircraft that were never built. And I know we have modders who focus on seaplanes.

I once had the opportunity to see this plane. It is pure, sovereign beauty.

This is by no means a request, rather an attempt to inspire…

A few years ago Vonofterdingen and I created the 1931 Schneider Trophy race at Portsmouth but of course using the frankenplanes that were available then. You can find it at M4T. It was made for a 92 year old flight sim enthusiast Bert who won the race in the Supermarine S5! He is now 99 and still going strong although with reduced eyesight sadly. He saw the original race when he was just five years old.
