early missile were less effective and not as reliable compared to modern missiles.
That's exactly what we're simulating in BAT too.
The key point often missed is that the missiles themselves
are quite effective, but when they were first used in masses (Vietnam) many pilots were not used to put theirselves into the right position and didn't respect the engagement envelope of their missiles, instead they launched them from hopeless situations hoping for some miracle to happen (which did not).
This lead to a rather low kill ration and subsequently people thought that it was a missile fault (which it wasn't).
Our early missiles (AIM-9M / AA-2) have a historically correct tendency to track ground clutter and/or sun beam rays, they lose track for locked seeker heads, they go wild for loose seeker heads, they run straight for broken electronics and they lose track when the enemy turns them out of his six. Can't speak for SF2. According to your reports, they might have stepped into the "Vietnam kill ratio" simulation trap.
