DOF - Campaign Completion Deletes
« on: May 15, 2017, 01:17:56 PM »

At least in DOF, probably others, when I complete a campaign, it wipes out any other saved campaigns.  All gone.

I avoid this by having a copy of my old User/doe/Campaign.ini file and copying it back, which has info on all current campaigns, and then manually deleting the completed campaign so my previous saved campaigns are not lost.  So it is workable, but it sure is annoying.  What is up with that?

You should create new pilots with different names for the campaigns you want to fly. That way you want have conflicts between them.

Really good idea, i am still in 1914 at Wipers.

Running Monty's excellent campaign, so i am not at the stage of deleting anything yet. ;)

I play the campaigns on a per plane basis, so I could have four to five campaigns going.  No problem while in progress, it is the completion of one of the campaigns that ignorantly deletes information on ALL campaigns, which is nuts.

Anyway, I like to have all campaigns in progress (never too many) shown on one screen, not have a per pilot and have all the other settings reset as well.  Believe me, its doable to just save the campaign.ini file manually and all the campaigns are not lost.  Complete campaign, restore file, manually delete completed campaign and you are still safe with all the other campaigns.  So it is manageable without having separate pilots.

It is just an odd thing for the program to reset all when one single campaign completes.  Very strange.  I'm sure it wasn't the intent of the design.

Hello gmkump!
Just for the record: I didn't experience what you describe about loosing campaigns when finishing one of them. I've recently finished the first Monty's campaign for France and I still keep the others open campaigns.

Here you have a screen of my pilot's log:

As you can see, campaign called Early Days is completed at 100%, and other not completed campaigns can be selected and played without further problems. Sorry I cannot help you any more, I just wanted you to know that there is no such a problem in my install.
Does it happen with all completed campaign or does it just happen with a specific campaign.

You can make some experiments with a new pilot profile and designing campaigns with two simple missions, so you can easily see what happens when you finish them without loosing your progress in real campaigns.

Good luck!

If you create a new pilot you can copy and paste the settings.ini file with your preffered settings to the new pilot. Go to the users/<pilot name> folder and copy the settings.ini to the new one! No boyher at all. I even have a modded "default.ini" in the users folder as a template, renaming the original default. (orgdefault.ini)

I have the same experience as you Spongy.

5 different campaigns listed, 1914 Early Years, the 1914 one i am playing now and 3x from the WAW module.

All still active and playable.

I confirm it is not something that happens every campaign completion, I just finished another and it was fine.  However, it has deleted the history on several campaigns I completed, so it is not an absolute occurrence.  I'm backing up anyway, because I've stepped in the hole three times already.

renaming or deleting a folder that's in active campaign list has exactly such an effect.

Well, I certainly never touched any folder, delete or rename or anything else.  I just played campaigns and my old saved campaign data would vanish from the list, happened multiple times.  Then I created a new sub-directory to save a copy of the campaign.ini file from my pilot folder.

So its not something I'm doing outside the program, it happened while playing the campaigns.  Not as big a deal as I thought, because now its all behaving as expected, no more issue, for now.  But it has happened multiple times, so I'll just keep saving each time my list changes, just in case.  No big thing.

Just did it again.  Completed 1918_BLOODY2, final mission, hit apply, entire history gone.

What is strange is the campaign.ini file still exists, it does not get deleted.  However, obviously the update from campaign completion, removing the campaign, has done something to the file that it's contents will no longer show on the campaign screen.  I saved the file as an odd file and restored from previous.

So it is still happening, but not a file delete, maybe an update to the campaign.ini file that it no longer shows campaign history.  Intermittent and very odd.

UPDATE:  It has nothing to do with campaign.ini file.  I restored, and campaign screen is still empty, there should be three campaigns.  I restarted program, no good.  Still investigating why the campaign.ini file is not longer being shown.  The pilot hasn't changed.  Something strange...
