I fixed it !

It was a problem with the weapons pack 2016 (I don't understand what was it, especially because it worked with my F-16 for example but that was the problem) !

Hate to be an annoyance but I'm not getting any engine sounds from the thing... I'm honestly surprised that I got it working at all, let alone first try, but it gets lonely in the cockpit without the nice hissing.

hello, you need to install F-16 BY RANWERS, since it uses the sounds of this (the same thing happened to me when I installed it last year:D )
I think it was this, I really don't remember, in the post it says the mods you need to run it, if not the F-16 BY RANWERS try another one.

Ah, see, this is my problem right here.
When I load in the F-14 the camera defaults to somewhere off the map, F1 stops working and F2 sets me back to the 3rd person view of the plane that won't respond to my controls. The sound of the engine works though, I'll try the F16 beta v5 to see if that's the right one.

I had a lot of problems with that before moving to BAT. It's almost always a cockpit problem.
Although I never had problems with the f14, if I did with the f16 and f18, the Jet Cockpit Common Materials (see 06 / Feb / 2019) solved this for me.
Maybe installing it will solve that problem, since the f14 appears in a part
"Jet Cockpit Common Materials" is needed only for special made Jets using this pack contents in their cockpits.
This pack doesn't affect old Jets or props.
When you have not installed the Jet(s) need it ..... you don't need to install this pack.

Now that I installed the F-16 beta v5 (the other F-16 mod) I don't get weird purple or uncontrollable or silent planes anymore, I just get a 60% CTD.

I had a lot of trouble with mods when I started. the sound of the a10 and su 25, I think I remember to solve it with the f16. (If you only want the sound for the a10 and the f16 doesn't work for you, just don't add the f16 to your air.ini, since placing the folder in your sas folder is enough.
I'm sorry I can't help you anymore, it's that I usually solved these problems by checking what mods I was missing or if they were incorrectly installed.
I remember that the f16 had it like 1 month without being able to fly it, and after adding something (I don't remember) it worked xD.
I recommend you if you have space to install the BAT, since there are all the rooms for the game.

If I may, I already had the sound problems. You need to install L-39 Pack (link: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,47946.0.html ) to  have the sound with you A10 and Su25 !

(I cannot solve this same problem with my Mirage IIIC though)...

Actually, I did find the solution - both to the F-16 and to the missing sound effects. Turns out my computer can't handle the HD True Colour Texture mod and I had to lower the graphics settings a bit, this solved the cockpit issue. As for the sounds, I downloaded the Ultimate Jet Sounds Mod by FL2070/dirtbloxxMC. Perhaps it will work for your mods as well, give it a try!
