Questions about campaigns
« on: June 07, 2017, 11:35:03 AM »

Over at M4T are a few nice PTO campaigns...most are done by a guy named ponyboy and they are made for stock 4.13 so they work quite nice in 4.12 too as they are only using stock aircraft...you can even mod them and replace generic ships with mod ships...other than that I need to see what else works in 4.12 as I am a PTO guy myself....Facing The Wind from IceFire works too btw...

Sweet - Thank you, Griffon!  So I can fly 4.13 campaigns in 4.12 as long as things are stock, or I edit the missions to make sure I have the right aircraft, ships, etc.?

Correct, the committed and slightly nerdy can tweak and make compatible pretty much anything with anything ...
I mean adjust a particular campaign or missions released for one version of the game for another.
It's all in text files which can be edited, and not that hard to learn where things are (like your available planes, their payloads, etc...).

Not too hard either to learn how to read a log file: if a mission makes the game crash, look at the log, see where it says "cannot find xyz-torpedo-blabla", fix the mission by replacing the "xyz-torpedo-blabla" by something available and reload. Endless hours of geek fun (but not much flying!)

So, so true. For me it's started with wanting to do a couple of historical missions on Uffalake's Crete Map. It's kinda got out of hand now. I blame Chris Shores :D

Well; what i learned is that you can trim pretty much every old campaign to work in 4.12; you will miss advanced features though that have not been available when the campaign was originally created AND the missions might not play exactly the way they were intended because of "limitations" of older game versions, slightly changed FMs, adjusted AI behaviour whatever....
stock campaigns should play on modded games mostly and I can vouch for several of ponyboys campaigns as I have flown them;

as posted, editing the mission files is pretty easy - for example I replaced the US GenericCV (Lexington class IIRC) with the modded Enterprise in "Sleeping Giants" campaign and the ugly British KGV BBs (=Generic US BB !!!) with the USS Arizona models and Pearl Harbor looks much nicer now...
easily done within 5 minutes but adding a lot of immersion;

so its worth a try to fly some of the released campaigns not specifically intended for BAT, they might just work and provide a lot of fun while we are waiting for Simons WAW stuff to be released :)
