Drivable Ships
« on: June 10, 2017, 05:23:29 AM »

Hi Guys

I recently got hold of "the famous PT boat mods" - as discussed in this thread in Ship Mods section https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,12024.0.html
Actually the download links for the original mod didn't work for me - the original is needed as a basis for the other downloads in the thread.
I managed, however, to get a copy of the original mod from Ede von Werner, who had posted for help in the above thread. I absolutely love this mod. I'm already working on some missions with air and sea action with the PT boat, or U boat, enabling some very absorbing close up combat with larger ships.
I would love to be able to create more drivable ships, but I have only just started reading about how to make mods and I think it would be many months if not years before I could make such mods. If anyone has the skills to take these mods further I would be extremely grateful.
Since discovering the SAS site I have learned so much about IL2 and am now, after year or so, quite a good map builder (see my Ceylon map https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,52963.0.html). If anyone could make, say a drivable destroyer or escort, then I would happily make a map or maps of their choice for them.

The PT boat mod, I think, uses an A6M Zero floatplane as it's basis but the cockpit is not the best for aboard a ship. Perhaps the PBY "Catalina" would be a promising basis for a drivable ship - then it may be possible to have gun positions as well as torpedoes.

Here is a new link to the original PT Boat mod

See post #16 for instructions

best regards to all

Good luck with your project. Addition of "drivable" ships will be great.

Thanks Dimlee
I'm going to put up a new link for the original PT boat/U boat mod in the next few days - so if you or anyone else didn't get it the first time round, you will be able to test drive this great mod.

My God - Excellent, absolutely superb - your work is my vision.
Is it possible that this could be progressed so that one day we have a range of drivable warships in the seas of IL2??
This would actually be superior to War Thunder and World of Warships etc, because control of ships would be better and more flexible, like the aircraft!!!
If I can do anything at all, please let me know.

Hi Erafitti
Thanks, that's a great video - I have looked on the "Ultra Spain" threads but can't find anything about the PT Boat.
It looks different to the version I have.

Is there a download link for the PT boat anywhere ?

Hi Erafitti

Thanks for that link - Ultra Spain is an excellent download - The PT boats are very well depicted with their own control cabin - very good, and the extra ships included in the pack are a nice variation.
I also tried a few Northern Spain missions in QMB and they are also brilliant.

Code: [Select]
What I want to make is drivable tanks.
Yes indeed - Tanks would be fantastic - imagine being in a Sherman or a PanzerIV at El Alamein.
And drivable ships and tanks etc would add so many extra dimensions to the sim.
Like I said in the post above, a sim of the scale and calibre of IL2 could easily rival these state of the art multi-service games like War Thunder, and be much better to play.

@bombsaway
then look up my request thread about Chieftain. The 3D is pretty much done.

what I would love to somehow see in game is possibility of changing/adding waypoints in real time. It would allow for many many things. (Imagine CA module for DCS - but that one goes a step further with being able to directly control the units.)
