Restoring vanilla water?
« on: June 14, 2017, 07:59:45 AM »

The BAT water disorients me, specially near the carriers. So can I get back to vanilla water somehow?

This is BAT water...

Awful looking thing. Extract water files from stock sfs.

That doesn't look right at all, what map is it in that particular image?

It looks like you have flown " out " of the map. Land will look the same. Also, do have any water mod activated?

This is BAT water...
No Sir, this is BAT water (click for Full HD size):

...and even when I fly off the map for an hour or more, until the fuel tanks are nearly dry, the water still looks the same:

Go into your conf.ini and change the "water" value from 1 to 3. That should fix it.

Be sure not to throw out the baby with the Batwater.

I'll get my coat...

Sorry, Mike, but my "Bat water" (lol) has that same, corduroyish look:

I tried Huckebein's suggestion re the conf.ini setting (the water was indeed =1; I changed it to =3), but it made no difference.

Much the same thing occurs on land masses, with forests. These often have a distractingly tweedy appearance.

Hmmm. Perhaps this thread should be moved to the Tech Help category.

Are you running in perfect mode? Any water mods? If not try one. I use the C version of Blender waves from Herra Tohtori

What both RealDarko's and EHood's screenshots have in common is that they lack any Anti Aliasing.

Apparently you haven't configured your graphics card settings at all, or you haven't done it right.
Please setup you graphics so that you're using Anti Aliasing and - even more important for the representation of textures in the distance - Anisotropic filtering.

Last but not least make sure to triple-check https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,9756.msg185327.html#msg185327
If you are using ATI cards, then water=3 is a no-go, you have to use water=2 instead.

Wow!  ;D Once again, Mike, I find myself in your debt. To condense yet another saga, I try not to think too much about the graphics card in my PC. I bought the PC assuming that I could eventually replace the stock card, an AMD Ratheon HD 7310, with something from Nvidia. My mistake, and attempts to alter the settings in the stock card usually lead to one fresh hell or another in Il-2. For example, setting the anti-aliasing to maximum quality and the anisotropic filtering to its maximum value, 16, smoothed out the BAT water, but it also resulted in huge, rectangular land mass appendages appearing and disappearing in a flickering, flashing, now-you-see-it-now-you-don't fashion:

I then reduced the anti-isotropic setting to 8; with  anti-aliasing still set to the maximum quality, I got a much better and so far very stable result:

Once again, many thanks.
