Small object with large explosive power
« on: June 19, 2017, 07:34:34 PM »

Hi all:

Back in the days of DBW, and before, one could put German fuel trucks or ammo boxcars around to emulate large explosions on the ground. I used clusters of trucks to represent ammo dumps or a string of them to look like pipelines being destroyed.

From DBW here's three (3) of those German fuel trucks (all set one-inside-the-other so it looks like only one truck) and the destruction zone when hit:

The brown trucks are 10m apart so you can see the blast radius is approximately 140m; plus the blast also destroyed two hangars in the background.

In 4.12 we've lost the explosive impact of those objects. Here's a shot under the same conditions:

Here we see only one brown truck destroyed and nothing else.

Would there be a way to get an object that gives us back the old blast zone? Ideally I think something even smaller than the truck would be better so it could be hidden in crates or among a set of bombs.

One work-around I found uses the property of the "Taxi to takeoff" feature in 4.12 to place flyable aircraft (as opposed to stationary aircraft) next to the fuel truck to increase the destructive power. However, there certainly wouldn't be any planes near an ammo or fuel dump!

Here's hoping.

May be to place a building and an aircraft inside with two waypoints? I used that for creating "timed" explosions. It was a hint given on this forum (sorry, can't find original post to give proper credit). Some experimentation is needed to find an aircraft with good explosive effect.
