BoE with BAT?
« on: September 15, 2017, 03:24:25 AM »

Hi all,

This isn't a bug as such but I wasn't sure where else to put it...having great fun with BAT, am thinking of dusting off my copy of BoE to add to it. My question is, can anybody think of any reason why installing BoE on top of my exisiting version of BAT (currently at Operation Sealion 3.1) would cause any issues? Or are there any known problems in this area?

Excessively cautious I'm sure, but thought I might as well ask, could save me buggering up a (currently) nice and tidy BAT install :-)

The only thing I can think of would be an annoyance is if there´s skins and soundfiles included they might cause some disturbence. Second thoughts, there can be problems with updated maps, i.e. updated runways on airbases, inaccurate waypoints and so on! As the BoE campaigns are made around an earlier version of the game it shoud work. If I remember right you only put campaign folders into respective nation folders. If you only install campaign folders there wouldn´t be a problem but to uninstall these if it doesn´t work.

No, there is no problem per-se as these additions only add stock Missions and campaigns, in particular to the DGEN side of things.
If you have a modded DGEN folder or DGEN.exe, this will be overwritten when installing BoE from Disk!

BUT....

BAT is not necessarily completely compatible with stock campaigns! the plane set in BAT is a bit specific, for example the stock Fw190D9 late is missing, which would cause a mission failure in a stock DGEN campaign that uses that plane.

If you want to play stock DGEN, I would advise you to add VP Modpack to your BAT.

BoE = Battle over Europe is a very old addon campaign from around 2004. I have another campaign called "Operation Barbarossa" from 2002 wich was one of the first campaigns made for the IL2 game containing 390 missions flying either  the 109 or the 190! + 28 more LW and 34 VVS missions! I found another cd from 2005 called "Ostfront" with campaigns situated around Murmansk and Kurland, flying for RAF (Murmansk), VVS, LW or Normadie Niemen and a Hs-123 bonus campaign, Schlagtflieger, (substitute ac is Cr-42). With a lot of editing they might be convertible to the current format of the sim, I´d think. (Someone interested?)

it was/is payware, might I add.
So all of this is old and intended for stock games and DGEN (dynamic campaigns) in particular. Still, BoE was a breakthrough as it for the first time introduced a lot of the baselines for western Europe scenarios into Il2.
